At first I was Skeptical about this book because I really didn't know what to expect since I know very little about the Salamanders. But by the Emperor, this book is an absolute masterclass. There were so many points in this book where I literally shed a few tears because of how emotionally invested I became. Amazing narration by Saul too, 10/10. VULKAN LIVES!!!

Created in the Emperor's own image, the primarchs had long thought themselves to be princes of the universe and masters of their own destiny - they led the Space Marine Legions in glorious conquest of the galaxy, and no enemy of the Imperium could stand against them. However, even amongst this legendary brotherhood, the seeds of dissent had been sown long before the treacherous Warmaster Horus declared his grand heresy.

I really enjoy the Horus Heresy stories especially the ones regarding the Primarch's so this was a great listen! Although it must be said, none of these stories actually do much to further the series so if you're looking for that, you can definitely skip this one :)

The Star Scorpions were undone by flaws in their genetic coding. The Celestial Lions were ravaged by the Inquisition for sins they did not commit. Now, after hundreds of years, only the Emperor's Spears still keep their vigil. They are barbarian watchmen against the Outer Dark, bloodied but unbroken in their long duty.

Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask. Seeking to undermine the very fabric of the Empire with their arcane warp-sorcery, the skaven, twisted Chaos rat-men, are at large in the reeking sewers beneath the city. Led by Grey Seer Thanquol, the servants of the Horned Rat are determined to overthrow this bastion of humanity. Against such forces, what possible threat can just two hard-bitten adventurers pose?

A great introduction to the man that is brandished as a hero of the imperium. While he claims to not being of such ilk, the situations presented to him mould him into the legendary figure he commands. The Emperor would most definitely be pleased!
