Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

The narration is very good, well written, I do like the overall story and it dies really take you back to another era, for me it was was a bit over the top, and sometimes the plot goes to crazy and I’m taken out of the moment, but it is a good book

At home, Richard Kuklinski was a dedicated suburban family man; on the street, he was the Iceman, a professional hit man and lethal scam artist, a man so heartless he kept one of his victims frozen for over two years to disguise the time of death. His personal body count was over 100, but the police couldn’t touch him. Then undercover agent Dominick Polifrone posed as a mobster and began a deadly game of cat and mouse. The Iceman chronicles Kuklinski’s grisly career and exposes his murderous double life.

Story
In July 1978, two bodies were discovered in the sea off Guatemala. They were found to be the remains of Chris Farmer and his girlfriend Peta Frampton, two young British graduates. Having been beaten and tortured, then thrown, still alive, into the sea, their bodies had been weighted down and dumped from the yacht on which they had been crewing. For nearly forty years, no one was charged with these brutal murders.

I hate to be one of those that complains about the narration but it just does not gel with me and I think it’s quite badly written and the combination of the two is not great, in another review it stated it’s Gcse writen standard and that is accurate, it’s a shame as I think the story is very good I just could not get to the end of the book

With this book you need to replace “Japan” with “China” and “Japanese” with “Chinese” to make it relevant with the current times, it’s a amazing insight on Japans panicle and I think shortly after the book the country went into decline, apart from certain industries like cars & video games which is a shame because all Japanese products are amazing compared to to the cheap Chinese crap we get now a days, not sure why it went into decline anyway it’s a great insight into the past on how Japan almost took over or how people felt that, I have seen the film but I was very young and can’t recall it so much, really looking forward to watching the film again, this book is well researched, enjoy

Story
Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, was Defoe’s first novel and survives as his best-known work. Loosely based on a true account of a Scottish sailor—Alexander Selkirk—it is a tale of one man’s fall from grace and progress to redemption. The account of Crusoe’s life, scratched out with rationed indigo ink on a dwindling supply of paper salvaged from the hull of a wrecked ship, speaks eloquently of the tenacity and ingenuity of the human spirit.

Lin returns from a smuggling trip to a city that seems to have changed too much, too soon. Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life.

It’s a great book
Reviewed: 20-04-24
For some reason the narration has different voices even though the same narrator and it’s no way as good as Shantaram, shame he could not keep the same voices for the characters, there was a long period between the two books, but it’s still good, with the two books everyone keeps coming back from the dead, which is just ridiculous, the first book had some crazy plots but somehow you believed it, with mountain shadow it’s just not believable, Carla I’d just annoying, I guess she was bit like that in the first book but comes across more in this one, I am being a bit critical with this review but the truth is it’s still a great book, get it & enjoy it

Story
Most people regard tax havens as being relevant only to celebrities, crooks and spivs, and mistakenly believe that the main offshore problems are money laundering and terrorist financing. These are only small parts of the whole picture. The offshore system has been (discreetly) responsible for the greatest ever shift of wealth from poor to rich. It also undermines our democracies by offering the wealthiest members of society escape routes from normal democratic controls.

But it is explained in a way that can be understood and I am amazed that Nicolas Shaxson managed to do it. I believe that more people need this book and understand the devastation of the finance world and tax havens

Story
On 22 February 2006, GBP53 million was stolen from a cash warehouse belonging to the Securitas company in Tonbridge, Kent. In terms of value, the robbery puts previous British capers, such as the Great Train Robbery, in the shade. This was a crime notable for its audacity, carried out by an unlikely crew of players that included a used car salesman, two Albanian casual workers and a roofer. Five men were convicted at the Old Bailey in January 2008, which attracted nationwide media coverage.

The narration is hilarious, you can hear the authors distain for certain characters, a lot of wanabe cockney gangsters have taken offence to this book.
It’s a really good detailed insight of one of the worlds biggest robberies.
highly recommend.
I would listen to the sample to see if your offended by the narration.
