Story
Jo Sorsby knows she is hiding from her past when she agrees to look after her uncle’s stationery shop. Spending her days glimpsing the lives of her customers as they experiment with what’s on offer is a welcome distraction from the life she has left behind. Yet far from home, Jo feels adrift... But when she meets Ruth, a vicar running from a secret, and Malcolm, a septuagenarian struggling to write his first book, she realises that she isn’t alone.

Absolutely loved this book

Like all of Sally Page’s books, I absolutely loved this. The essence of ordinary characters with their own internal struggles and absolutely everyday characteristics is captured perfectly. The narration was perfect for the book and characters, more please!

Story
A.J. Fikry, the grumpy owner of Island Books, is going through a hard time: his bookshop is failing, he has lost his beloved wife, and his prized possession - a rare first edition book has been stolen. Over time, he has given up on people, and even the books in his store, instead of offering solace, are yet another reminder of a world that is changing too rapidly. But one day A.J. finds two-year-old Maya sitting on the bookshop floor, with a note attached to her asking the owner to look after her. His life - and Maya's - is changed forever.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book at first but I enjoyed the slow but steady pace of the storyline and the development of the characters. I was moved by ending and am sad now it’s finished. This is always the sign of an enjoyable book.

Story
‘She couldn’t remember the last time they’d stared at each other with dewy eyes over the cornflakes, or when they’d last tumbled into bed and bonked like spring bunnies, but they loved each other. Didn’t they?’ Chrissie, Dee and Amber each feel a marriage proposal is overdue from their respective boyfriends. When the women are invited to a birthday soirée – complete with fortune teller – the girls know there is only one question they’ll be asking Madam Rosa: will their men be popping the question? But opting to see a clairvoyant is a bit like opening Pandora’s box. Some revelations are a joy, whereas others are most definitely not. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for…. Best-selling romance author Debbie Viggiano’s delightful, satirical take on life and relationships. This audiobook will particularly appeal to fans of Adele Parks and Mhairi Mcfarlane.

Simply not my cup of tea. The gender stereotypes beggared belief. At many points I almost stopped listening but continued because I just couldn’t believe the absolute nonsense I was listening to. Women whose sole objective in life is to marry, all working in support roles for professional men, a comment about a man’s place in the home being obvious because he was wearing an apron. If you love gender specific stereotyping this book is absolutely for you.

I could not love Marian Keyes’ books more. Her ability to describe the trauma faced in life is astounding in its accuracy and detail, however each book always manages to end with positivity. I have come to her books later in life, but I’m oh so glad that I have!

Story
Meet Rachel Walsh. She's been living it up in New York City, spending her nights talking her way into glamorous parties before heading home in the early hours to her hot boyfriend Luke. But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.

This is my first Marian Keyes novel and I can’t wait to listen to my next. Having been through this particular ‘holiday’ experience, and coming from an Irish family, I laugh, cried, and reminisced. Marian has a beautiful voice and it only enhanced the characters and story, as I heard the characters voice as she wrote them. One of the few books I was truly sorry when it finished.

Story
Sasha is well and truly over it all: work (all-consuming), friendships (on the back burner), sex-life (non-existent). Sasha has hit a brick wall. Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga and find solitude, she heads to the Devon resort she loved as a child. But it's off-season, the hotel is falling apart and now she has to share the beach with someone else: a grumpy, stressed-out guy called Finn. How can she commune with nature when he's sitting on a rock, watching her? Especially when they don't agree on burnout cures.

Life changing
Reviewed: 08-09-23
This book has quite literally changed my life, the informed choices (now I have choices) about what I eat, and what my family eats. It has been nothing short of revolutionary in my life and I am aghast at what is happening (of lack of action thereof) at a corporate and governmental level. I never ever imagined I would able to change my outlook on food and what I eat so drastically and easily, that is until I listened to this book. I am now planning on buying the paper version of the book to take notes. The author brings the book to life, he is very engaging and easy to listen to. If you want your eyes opened to what you’re really eating when you serve up dinner, then I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
