Great story, as usual from Michael Wood.
The only downside for me, was the terrible supposed scouse accent, god knows who it’s based on.

Story
On the night of 3 October 1922, in the quiet suburb of Ilford, Edith Thompson and her husband, Percy, were walking home after an evening spent at a London theatre, when a man sprang out of the darkness and stabbed Percy to death. The assailant was Frederick Bywaters, a 20-year-old merchant seaman who had been Edith's lover. When the police learned of his relationship with Edith, she was arrested as his accomplice, despite protesting her innocence.

Story
The annals of movie history are full of lost treasures – spectacular scripts from world-renowned writers that could have been classics, had they only been made. Now, for the first time, some of these forgotten gems have been brought to life, fully realised as vivid, cinematic radio productions. Scripted by major 20th Century writers, they star a host of A-list actors and feature richly evocative, atmospheric soundtracks.

This book, for me, was much anticipated, I kept it on my wish list while it was on pre order.
It’s not for me, the stories are just ‘weird’ and very dated.
I was so disappointed. How on earth these would ever have been made in to films, I find baffling.
A waste of money.

In his major new work, Michael Palin - former Monty Python stalwart and much-loved television globe-trotter - brings to life the world and voyages of HMS Erebus, from its construction in the naval dockyards of Pembroke, to the part it played in Ross’s Antarctic expedition of 1839-43, to its abandonment during Franklin’s ill-fated Arctic expedition, and to its final rediscovery on the seabed in Queen Maud Gulf in 2014.

Story
The most advanced scientific enterprise ever mounted, Sir John Franklin’s 1845 expedition in search of the fabled Northwest Passage had every expectation of triumph. But for almost two years his ships, HMS Terror and Erebus, have been trapped in the Arctic ice. Supplies of fuel and food are running low. Scurvy, starvation and even madness are beginning to take their toll. And yet the real threat isn’t from the constantly shifting, alien landscape, the flesh-numbing temperatures or being crushed by the unyielding, frozen ocean. No, the real threat is far more terrifying.

I am absolutely in awe listening to the lives of these amazing men How dedicated they must have been to endure the hardships that they did, all in the name of exploration. A fascinating tale, especially now knowing, how and where the boats were eventually found. The narrator is very good, although I’m not that keen on his interpretation of Mr Hickeys voice. I do find it slightly irritating that he keeps pronouncing, Longitude as Longtitude! Maybe it’s my hearing but I don’t think so.
Enjoyed every second of it.
