Very enjoyable and pitched at the perfect level. I'd probably need a printout of the pdf when certain formulae are being discussed but definitely a book I will recommend and also listen too repeatedly.

Story
1946. Three years after a cataclysmic event that tore their lives apart, a mother and daughter flee Poland for Paris, shame and fear at their heels, not knowing how hard it is to escape your past. Nearly 80 years later, Gretel Fernsby lives a life that is a far cry from her traumatic childhood. When a couple moves into the flat below her in her London mansion block, it should be nothing more than a momentary inconvenience. However, the appearance of their nine-year-old son, Henry, brings back memories she would rather forget.

A worthy sequel to an endlessly tragic tale.

I was curious to see what the sequel to TBITSP would be like and having finished it's like it was the obvious companion piece from the start. I personally don't agree with totally burdening a 12yr old girl with the horrific deeds of her father but thats probably exactly what would and did happen. Funny how the guilt of priests doesn't get transferred quite as easily.

Good story with an historical setting

Very enjoyable. The idea of having the story set around the time of the Ripper really brought me back. Simpler times but sure that's why it took so long to catch him. Good mix of believable characters and that almost unforgivable stiff upper lip that meant people put up with more than they should or just turned a blind eye.

Big ideas condensed into a fully engrossing tale about the history of mankind with a little prediction and warning about possible futures. Amazing some of the authors points haven't been taken to heart by his own people in an occupied land.

The house is Crickley Hall and it's large and grim, somehow foreboding. It's rumoured to be haunted. It's thought to hold a secret. Despite some reservations, the Caleighs move in, searching for respite in this beautiful part of North Devon, seeking peace and perhaps to come to terms with what's happened to them as a family. But all is not well with the house....

Have to say I hated this. Way too much back story for characters, over description and the narration, for me, was brutal. The only reason I stuck with it was because I wanted to have the full story before passing judgement as I remember enjoying a few James Herbert boos as a kid. Not any more thanks.

Tried this Audible recommendation on a whim but only finished it to see if there were any redeeming features at all. Can't believe how many other books Blake has but if this one is anything to go by I won't be going near them. Poorly written, unbelievable plot lines, bad dialogue and clunky action. No more for me.
