New York City, New York. Meet Augustus Berrycloth-Young - fop, flaneur, and Englishman abroad - as he chronicles the Jazz Age from his perch atop the city that never sleeps. That is, until his old friend Thomas Nightingale arrives, pursuing a rather mysterious affair concerning an old saxophone - which will take Gussie from his warm bed, to the cold shores of Long Island, and down to the jazz clubs where music, magic, and madness haunt the shadows.

thoroughly enjoyed.. Couldn't stop listening. I'm not very good at writing reviews and not sure why they have to be so long.

bit over the top

I liked the series so far, but honestly this was so exaggerated in parts, it made me cringe and I couldn't listen any more for a few days. It's going too far, with that ghastly Queenie and some of the stupidity that Georgiana lets herself get bullied into its just awful.

Story
Will is in Bristol for a brand-new start. He’s got his outrageous flatmate, Emma, his job at the bookshop and he’s totally infatuated with Gus. A French Bulldog. An actual relationship with an actual man seems about as real as the science fiction novels Will stacks on shelves all day long. And then into his life walks Ben. Ben is all the things Will isn’t: confident, charming (bordering on cocky), popular, a Jiu Jitsu champion, and generally deflecting life’s problems as easily as dodging a clumsy throw on the mat.

Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

I have read most of Gabriel's books and they have all been exceptional. There is so much detail and you can tell a lot of research and effort has gone into them. However I have every intention of buying them again if they are ever on Audible. This first audible book is excellent and so is his choice of narrator. Incredible plot, with lots happening and so interesting. I was glad that Tristan was there, he is one of my favourite characters in the Jack Rogan series, although of course Jack himself is great too. I sincerely hope that the rest of the series will be on Audible soon and look forward to meeting all the characters again.
