Story
Why do you lose arguments with people who know MUCH LESS than you? Why can you recognise that woman, from that thing...but can't remember her name? And why, after your last break-up, did you find yourself in the foetal position on the sofa for days, moving only to wipe the snot and tears haphazardly from your face? Here's why: the idiot brain. For something supposedly so brilliant and evolutionarily advanced, the human brain is pretty messy, fallible and disorganised.

An interesting insight into police investigations
Reviewed: 09-08-22
A really fascinating synopsis of how the dedication, loyalty, hard work and commitment of a well-lead murder team managed to successfully take an evil individual off the streets.
It was handled with humanity, compassion and due consideration of the victims and their families. The lengths the police go to and the time taken to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt is incredible and gives a genuine insight into the working of our judicial system.
The narrator did a great job, maintaining interest and the flow of the book.

We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why? In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones, rather than a lack of self-control. He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes

This is really easy to listen to. It's honest, heartfelt and passionately delivered by the author. It didn't really teach me anything that I hadn't heard from other self-help books and it's a bit clichéed at times, but it reinforced the messages and I appreciated the autobiographical take on the subject matter.
It was strange being 'preached at' by someone young enough to be my daughter but also helped me put myself in my children's shoes and see things from their perspective and in their time.

Think you have a good memory? Think again. Memories are our most cherished possessions. We rely on them every day of our lives. They make us who we are. And yet the truth is they are far from being the accurate records of the past we like to think they are. True, we can all admit to having suffered occasional memory lapses, such as entering a room and immediately forgetting why or suddenly being unable to recall the name of someone we've met dozens of times. But what if we have the potential for more profound errors of memory?

It took me a while to get into this book but I'm glad I persisted. Whilst it is quite long it is well written and narrated as well as engaging and relevant.
As most of my children are probably a little too old for this to be applicable to it is reassuring that I, as a 'Victorian parent' , I was correct to try and spend as much time with my children as possible and to limit their online time when they were young.
If you are concerned about losing your children to either their peers or modern technology this book is a must read.
Thank you.
