Wisdom with two women
Reviewed: 11-07-23
It took a while before I was ready to understand and really listen to what these wise women are discussing together in this unique recorded conversation. My only issue is that I wish it were longer or there were more episodes of the conversation!

Tearfully beautiful
Reviewed: 30-06-23
I have both read this book and listened to it multiple times and no doubt I will listen again. I find myself crying at Martín’s words and the beauty of those he has written so eloquently of. His experience of belonging and of experiencing life with a people far more complex than modern life and the history books gives credit, touches my soul so profoundly, I find myself crying at the beauty he describes & for the people that once lived. But as Martín says in his afterword, this book is not simply an account of what was, but of what we humans can be. I hope that the more I learn & the more I listen, I might be inching closer to becoming a complex, simple, living, beautiful human, myself. All blessings to the author and all those who’s ears and minds his words reach.

Story
From the plains of ancient Mesopotamia to the rolling hills of medieval England to the vast sheep farms of modern-day Australia, sheep have been central to the human story. Starting with our Neolithic ancestors' first forays into sheep-rearing nearly 10,000 years ago, these remarkable animals have fed us, clothed us, changed our diet and languages, helped us to win wars, decorated our homes and financed the conquest of large swathes of the earth.

Great book, fascinating history of sheep and wool. It sheds new light on why life is how it is today! Good narration but my only complaint is the narration is fast, so I had to slow it down a point to keep up with the information shared.

Story
I’ll admit I’m a romantic and heroic. But to be honest, it’s not my fault: it’s the fault of all the horses I’ve ever known. In my romantic struggle for beauty in an unromantic mechanical age, my horses, simply by how they were, and how we looked, and how we were together, although no more than a tiny broadside against the ghost ship of mediocrity of this crazy age, were some kind of victory just by the fact that we still existed. Horses inspire courage against hopeless odds just by their courage and beauty.

Story
The Unlikely Peace at Cuchumaquic is both an epic story and a cry to the heart of humanity based on the author’s realization that human survival depends on keeping alive the seeds of our “original forgotten spiritual excellence.” Prechtel relates our current state of ecological crisis to the rapid disappearance of biodiversity, indigenous cultures, and shared human values. He demonstrates how real human culture is exterminated when real (not genetically modified) seeds are lost.

Abundant with knowledge and teachings. I love listening to Martín read his books. It adds so much to hear his words read allowed in is own voice. This is one of the best books, a required read/listen for anyone looking or longing for their own indigenous soul. People as plants, our forgotten agreements with the holy in nature. And how to begin remembering. This book will change your perspective/ understanding of who you are and what you are doing on this beautiful earth, so listen closely and enjoy!

Story
Inspiring hope, solace, and courage in living through our losses, author Martín Prechtel, trained in the Tzutujil Maya shamanic tradition, shares profound insights on the relationship between grief and praise in our culture - how the inability that many of us have to grieve and weep properly for the dead is deeply linked with the inability to give praise for living. In modern society, grief is something that we usually experience in private, alone, and without the support of a community.

I find it brilliant to listen to this book in Martín’s voice. It was a life changing book to read on paper and it takes on a new depth to hear it read by the author. Especially the story about Little Wetzak and Big Thunder. Thank you Martín for recording your voice to reach us across the globe at a time when we are unable to travel to your school.

Story
We are rapidly reaching a tipping point where the collapse of civilization and the extinction of much of the natural world looms ominously upon the horizon. It is a bleak picture and on the surface it looks as though we are doomed. The patterns of our past are veering us toward a tipping point in our present. The pertinent question to ask here is - “Are you willing to put your heart into reaching a new tipping point and to take an active part in the transformation of the worlds?” We can evolve as a species and as a planet.

Andrew Steed is a marvellous storyteller. You’ve got to listen to his story, his adventures and his wisdoms. Andrew speaks words of truth that sit so deeply within me, and it is in hearing his story & his voice woven around these truths that I find inspiring, encouraging and empowering. He is a man full of magic in ways hard to summarise other than by telling you that an encounter with Andrew and his work could bring out in you unexpected JOY and CREATIVITY! His positivity will beam into your hearts if you allow your ears to absorb his words. I finished the book feeling ‘I can’ and ‘I will’ and ‘I am doing this’. We can re-dream and re-imagine this world. In fact we are re-dreaming and re-imagining this world.
