Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was 10, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when Charlie is 17, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.

Highly entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Somewhat different to some of King’s other works, but once again demonstrating his mastery of storytelling. The narrator was superb, one of the best readings I’ve heard.

Another belter from Claire Douglas

An excellent story, as it gradually reveals the events of the past and why Saffy & Tom have found 2 bodies in their garden.
I enjoyed the performances too. They did full justice to the story.
As always with Claire Douglas, there are twists and surprises along the way. A gripping story that kept me entertained throughout.

Story
Una Richardson is devastated after the death of her mother. Hoping for a fresh start, she responds to an advertisement and steps into the rich, comforting world of elderly Mrs Elspeth McKenzie. But Elspeth's home is not as safe as it seems. Kathryn, her cold and bitter daughter, resents Una's presence. More disturbing is the evidence suggesting two girls lived here before. What happened to them? Why will the McKenzies not talk about them? As the walls close in around her, Una fears she'll end up just like the other girls.

Another Claire Douglas cracker

Excellent book from the reliable Claire Douglas. The story makes you keep asking “what’s going on?” Intruiging throughout, with realistic characters the reader invests in. Well read story too, the right balance between‘performing’ and reading a book. Loved it.
