MILLSY'S 1ST APPEARANCE 3 STARS 🌟🌟🌟
Reviewed: 08-01-25
This book was originally released in 2016 and it is now 2025.
The Character of 'MILLSY' makes his very first appearance here in this book and then Portia Macintosh has developed the character further and he has now appeared in 2 other books as a main character!
I love books by Portia Macintosh and they usually get a 4 or a 5 Star rating from me but on this occasion I had to give 3 Stars â?â?â? as it did feel a bit lacklustre and I was left needing more because the story needed an extra chapter or at least an epilogue.
I was still hooked on the story although Ruby acted vulgar at times with no need too as you can get on with guys without stooping to their childish, toilet humour🙄🙄🙄
I know the book has been edited since 2016 to be re-released but that makes it worse as the editor 's needed to tweak more to be honest.
I think the narrator Karen Cass was great and really does bring characters to life so she gets 4 Stars â?â?â?â? for her performance.
Yes I would recommend this listen if you like Chicklit and are a Portia Macintosh fan but wait until it is in the sale or on a 2 for 1 credit deal, than that way you won't use up a whole credit.

This was about 2 brothers and their egos. The bit I liked was Lucy being a strong female role model as a blacksmith. Why Lucy went along with her ex-boyfriend is against her characters nature! Of course the gran knew, she is old not stupid.
I didn't feel like this was a really festive book though. Gloria Sanders did her job well as narrator. I wish the book has more about it. I was left feeling lacklustre.
No, I wouldn't recommend this listen!

Susie Riddell did her job as narrator well. So 3 STARS all around!

Meg is definitely not in the Christmas mood. She’s never gone in for tinsel, baubles and mistletoe, and right now she’s still getting over an illness. Yet when she’s invited to spend the run-up to Christmas in the snowy countryside rather than dreary London, she can’t refuse. Arriving at a warm and cosy family home in a small hilltop village, Meg soon begins to wonder what a proper Christmas might be like. But just as she’s beginning to settle in, she spots a familiar face. Lex.

This book is 14 hours long but it has felt like it has taken me the whole month of December to listen too it all!
It really dragged but as I paid to listen to it, I wanted to stick with it, although it wasn't a light hearted Christmas romcom at all, it was a heavy serious book and someone even tried to push Meg off of a cliff during the winter solstice but they swept attempted murder under the carpet 😲
They could have told the story in a shorter time span. It felt like in one book the author was trying to tick off as many genre's as she could and in my opinion that didn't work.
The author Emma Powell does her job as narrator well, although when I hear her voice I keep thinking I'm listening to THE CORNISH MIDWIVES Series of Books.
No I wouldn't recommend this listen but Happy New Year✨

I love Christmas, Chicklit and Romcoms which Portia Macintosh writes very well.
I absolutely love her books and this was no exception.
Running a Seasonal Shop all year round sounds great, it was lovely to hear about twins Holly and Ivy, their family and what was happening reminded me of a Hallmark film.
A developer comes to town wanting to tear the shop down and develop the land to make Holiday Homes!
Once again Karen Cass narrates superbly and brings the characters to life.
I would definitely recommend this listen as it was worth the moneyðŸŒ

Holly has the place to herself this Christmas. It’s not her place, though – she is house-sitting for friends who live on Nightingale Square – just there to keep the place warm and cosy and only for long enough for her to sort her life out. Newly single and finding herself unsure about next steps for her career, she plans to hunker down and make some life decisions. To clear her mind, she sets off on early morning walks around a nearby lake and bumps into May, an older lady who is also new to the area, and her dapper Dachshund Monty.

I really enjoyed this Christmastime listen, back at Nightingale Square. Heidi's books are always brilliant and Karen Cass is an excellent narrator, she really does bring the characters to life!
It was a wonderful romcom Chicklit listen that I won't forget because the female character Holly said " I don't need to be Mrs Claus 🤶do I? I mean Santa🎅 is the main man the kids come to see" and the organisers replied "Yes Mrs Claus is needed because lots of the children have no positive MALE role model in their life for heartbreaking reasons so they always appreciate seeing Mrs Claus" Holly felt sad and just said "Oh, I didn't think of that, I will change into costume now"
This is worth the credit and I completely recommend this listenðŸŒ

When she starts work in a ‘new age’ shop, Tanz suddenly discovers that the voices she’s hearing in her head are real, not the first signs of madness, and that she can give people ‘messages’ from beyond the grave.

I never thought I would listen to a sleuth book or Amateur Sleuths as I love Chicklit Romcoms but this was just down to earth, realistic funny writing, that I thought was great.
Real life Geordie actress and author Tracy Whitwell has wrote through the character 'Tanz' what it is like to be a psychic medium, when you don't want to claim to be one and it really resonated with me.
I loved the humour and found myself laughing with Tanz, the Geordie accent made it more believable and hilarious as Tanz goes on her adventures.
I say it's down to earth but obviously Spirits/ Souls are part and parcel of being a psychic medium.
I loved the way it came about for Tanz, so natural whilst being super-natural.
The narration from Tracy Whitwell was spot on and it really worked, her narrating her own novels.
I loved this listen, it was worth the money/Credit and I recommend it. I look forward to listening to the rest of the books in 'The Accidental Medium' SeriesðŸŒ

A wonderful warm festive treat from Sunday Times bestseller Trisha Ashley. The perfect gift isn't always under the tree... Single mum Cally's life is all about her little girl Stella. She's resigned to the fact that the only romance she's going to get is from the rom-coms she watches, and with her busy job and her daughter, she doesn't have time to even think about love. But life gets very tough when Stella gets sick.

This was too heavy for a Christmas listen especially if you have small children or seriously ill little ones. I am just relieved that there was a happy ending.
The narrator Julia Barrie does her job narrating very well and I have listened to her in lots of other books.
I have another 'Trisha Ashley' Christmas book to listen too and I really hope it's happier than this book.
Personally, I would not recommend this listen if you want something festive and fun.

There’s nothing quite like a Christmas love story to get you in the mood for celebrating.... Cara doesn’t do sexy, and she only does ‘Happy Christmas’ under duress. She is, after all, a serious musician, and her stubborn streak is born from her struggle to recover from a serious injury. Javi lives for escapist fun - in his music and in his life - especially since he’s always failed at life’s more serious challenges, including marriage and fatherhood.

Christmas Culture 3 Stars â?â?â?
Reviewed: 25-11-24
I bought this listen because I love Chicklit and I love Christmas. I haven't got on with previous Leonie Mack listens but this book was good as it had depth.
Cara and Javi were an unlikely pairing and only had music in common but they proved that opposites attract, it was more than a love story as we learn about each character and their culture.
I liked how the Latino lyrics unravelled to tell a story of Javi's life and the back story of Cara was also interesting as it explains why she is the person she is now.
I love Christmas 🎅listens that are happy and funny. I probably wouldn't listen to it again but I am glad I did hear it!
Gloria Sanders is a great narrator and she reminds me so much of Gabrielle Glaister they deserve jobs as narrator.
I bought this on a 2 for 1 credit deal and being HONEST I would not of been happy if I spent a whole credit on this book!
