Story
Richmond Upon Thames is one of the most desirable areas to live in London. And Riverview Close - a quiet, gated community – seems to offer its inhabitants the perfect life. At least it does until Giles Kenworthy moves in with his wife and noisy children, his four gas-guzzling cars, his loud parties and his plans for a new swimming pool in his garden. His neighbours all have a reason to hate him and are soon up in arms. When Kenworthy is shot dead with a crossbow bolt through his neck, all of them come under suspicion and his murder opens the door to lies, deception and further death.

Story
As dawn breaks on the farm, Helen Rebanks makes a mug of tea, relishing the few minutes of quiet before the house stirs. Within the hour the sounds of her husband, James, and their four children will fill the kitchen. There are also six sheepdogs, two ponies, 20 chickens, 50 cattle and 500 sheep to care for. Helen is a farmer's wife. Hers is a story that is rarely told, despite being one we think we know. Weaving past and present, Helen shares the days that have shaped her.

Remarkable Farmers Wife
Reviewed: 17-09-23
Helen Rebanks brings alive her childhood life on the farm in the Lake District, in Oxford and as a farmer’s wife back in the Lake District. She is insightful and honest in whatever she describes and most of all brings the scenes vividly to life.
I have removed one star overall as the recipes don’t work so well on audio as they do in the book.
Despite this, I strongly recommend. It is a great companion to James Rebank’s books and a must for those who care about our farming and land management practices, our wildlife and our food.

Story
'I've written three books and our deal is over.' That's what reluctant author Anthony Horowitz tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne in an awkward meeting. The truth is that Anthony has got other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the famous Vaudeville theatre in Shoreditch. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is not enjoyed by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Harriet Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

This book included an evocative description of being arrested and spending a night in jail, a portrait of a petulant and somewhat naive author, his unusual detective, a generous handful of suspects and excellent narration all coming together in a neat and satisfying conclusion. What’s not to like?

I liked the breadth and the detail. This is the biggest story ever told so, finding, it needed great concentration, I slowed the speed to .9x. I also found it essential to have a clear guide to the periods of Earth’s four and a half billion year history next to me. However, it was worth the effort. Mind opening and fascinating.

Story
Will She Do? is the story of a girl from a council estate in Tottenham, born in 1934 to an electric-meter reader and a seamstress, who was determined to be an actress. Candid and witty, this memoir takes her from her awkward performances in working-men's clubs at six years of age as dancing 'Baby Eileen', through the war years in London, to her breakthrough at 32 on Broadway with The Killing of Sister George, for which she received the first of five Tony Award nominations.

The millennium between the breakup of the western Roman Empire and the Reformation was a long and hugely transformative period - one not easily chronicled within a single book. I liked the broad sweep of circa 1000 years which showed how patterns developed as Europe evolved between the fall of the RomanEmpire and the beginnings of the modern world. I found the narration too fast for the density of the information (reduced to .9 it was okay).
