This was a great Christmas read …. Maybe slightly too long - could have been slightly a shorter and would have been better I think - little bit repetitive in places

This book is well written and draws you in with his fast paced whodunnit style - if you’re a psychological thriller fan you’ll love this. A great book , although the story sagged a little in places - and plot could have done with a little tightening

Story
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

It may be slightly removed from the other people and the chalk man …. A bit to action based for me, I found it a bit hard to follow at times - the story didn’t really go any where , as a reader you’re not sure who you’re rooting for or what the mystery is

She’s just a maid—why should anyone take notice? But Molly is thrown into the spotlight when she discovers an infamous guest, Mr Black, very dead in his bed. This isn’t a mess that can be easily cleaned up.

Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. Not bad, psychological thriller
Reviewed: 18-01-19
If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, you will enjoy this. It’s probably more like 3.5 stars but scoring it 3 would be too low. I won’t cover the story as you can read the blurb but I will tell you briefly what I thought of it. Okay, what I liked. the writing was very good and the novel had a good pace. The characters were well written and really made you feel the emotions that mothers go through. The story was good. You aren’t totally sure what’s going on and times and I was keen to get through to the end to find out. The ending was good but this book fell a bit short of the mark for me. It’s not very original, most of the themes and ideas have been down to death recently and it didn’t bring anything new. The first part of the book did drag and take a while to get going but the second half really picked up the pace and was bloody brilliant! Gotta be honest it got quite predictable and we could have done with some more red herrings and the twist ending wasn’t that shocking really. I’ve been a bit critical here... but overall it was a good read.
