Touching and brave.
Reviewed: 19-03-24
I really enjoyed getting to know Maria a little better. The book is a very brave and open account of a very interesting life. It takes real guts to let people into the deepest darkest crevices of your life. I have very similar experiences to Maria with a certain part of her life, (no spoilers) and she describes that aspect so eloquently, every word resonated with me. The ups were heartwarming, the bizarre moments amusing, and the downs very heartfelt. If you like Maria on the radio or televisual shows you will love the book. Thank you Maria if you’re reading this, and I look forward to an updated book in your dotage, I’m sure old lady Maria will be a hoot! xx

Good, but not the best for an audible listen
Reviewed: 26-10-23
I love Trinny’s personality and she is so knowledgeable about fashion and beauty. However I think this book would be great in a hard copy but didn’t really work too well as an audible book. It comes across as if she is just reading a long list of quotes and bullet points, it doesn’t really flow, and perhaps I was wrong in thinking it would include more of her life story. May well pick up the book to refer too for fashion inspiration, the beauty content is more for beginners or those who know very little about skincare and beauty. For those people it will be worth it.

How I love this woman, I would pay to listen to her recite the alphabet to be perfectly honest. I enjoyed both of her books very much, I think I slightly preferred the first but can’t quite put my finger on why. She delivered as always lots of laughter and a few tears. The chapter about how happy she is with her partner, just sitting quietly at home really resonated with me, and as a single person in her 50’s she may have just convinced me to put myself out there again, life is indeed sweeter with two. If you’re reading this Miriam, thank you, keep being you, and I hope you see your 100th birthday. x

Philippa Gregory's first story in the best-selling Wideacre trilogy. A compelling tale of passion and intrigue set in the 18th century. From the author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover. Wideacre Hall, set in the heart of the English countryside, is the ancestral home that Beatrice Lacey loves. But as a woman of the 18th century, she has no right of inheritance. Corrupted by a world that mistreats women, she sets out to corrupt others.

I’ve never read anything by the author before, so had no preconceptions of what it may be like. I really enjoyed it though, yes it does have some fairly explicit sex scenes but they didn’t bother me as it appears they bothered others. The main character is ambitious flawed and complex, but despite her terrible deeds I did find myself rooting for her. Apart from the Scottish accent the narrator was superb. Beatrice is deliciously wicked and the narrator conveys that perfectly. I will try more from this narrator and author.

I should have returned this, I kept going hoping it would get better, it didn’t. Once you’ve read the title details you may as well skip to the end to find out what happened, the in between chapters are pretty dull.

Tedious
Reviewed: 29-04-23
I loved a lot of this authors previous books but this one was somewhat tedious. You quickly ascertain what’s going on and eventually you know who the ‘baddie’ is, and then his or her (no spoilers) reasons are thoroughly and carefully explained, most of which was teenage nonsense. I stuck with it as I’ve returned a few titles recently, and it was pleasant enough just a bit boring. Sorry :)

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow - and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling - and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last.

I really enjoyed this book. It is very long, and very detailed. I learned an awful lot about his childhood and his time in the army. The workings of the inner sanctum of the Royal family is very insightful. I share Harry’s opinion of the press, and do not read the tabloids, the levels they stooped to in pursuit of earning money is really shocking and makes me glad I didn’t read any of it. My heart really went out to him and Meghan. Harry is open, honest, humble and self deprecating throughout the book, I think he’s done the right thing to be so open, although not everyone will agree with that I’m sure. Wether you are a fan of his or not, you will undoubtedly understand him, Meghan and the family a lot better once you’ve read this. I for one wish them much joy and happiness.

I enjoyed the book, beautifully read and very easy to listen to, it is a very slow burn, if you enjoy programmes like Vera and Midsummer Murders it is along those lines. Good but don’t expect high drama twists and turns.
