Story
We often think of Britain springing from nowhere with the arrival of the Romans. But in Ancestors, pre-eminent archaeologist, broadcaster and academic Professor Alice Roberts explores what we can learn about the very earliest Britons 17 from their burial sites. Although we have very little evidence of what life was like in prehistorical times, here their stories are told through the bones and funerary offerings left behind, preserved in the ground for thousands of years.

Very well read by Alice herself, she's passionate on her subject, I was enthralled by all she had to say and learned so much. She has an excellent way of expressing herself and I loved hearing all her opinions. I'll definitely be reading/listening to more of her books.

What a great end to the Glimmer Falls series. I absolutely love these books, they're funny and happy and I have a silly smile on my face throughout the story. Helen Laser is the perfect narrator for the job too, she was made for reading these books.
Thanks Sarah Hawley for writing them, eccentric, original and a joy to read 👏🏻👏🏻

What a brilliant continuation to the story, it constantly took me by surprise with it's plot twists and turns!
I must confess I get a little confused with the politics and bloodlines, just when I think I know what's going on a new bit of information unfolds and throws me. Apart from that I absolutely love the series... the way Stina Nielson says 'Poppy' in Casteel's voice is just so cute. I'm officially addicted...roll on book 4 🙌🏻

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

What a brilliant second instalment to this series, lots of action and steamy romance though I'm sensing this is going to be a long drawn out story. Jennifer Armentrout doesn't rush things.
The characters are fab, I love Hawke/Casteel, he's intense, kind, and a real badass when it comes to protecting his girl. Poppy has had to come to terms with all the lies she's been told all her life but she remains brave and fearless. Her interaction with Casteel is wonderful and all that inappropriate behaviour puts a silly grin on my face, incredibly violent Poppy turns him on!
Kieran's blossoming friendship with Poppy is another interesting thread, their interactions are very funny.
The whole book is brought together by the talented Stina Nielsen who does an incredible job of the narration, what a perfect choice. 👏🏻👏🏻

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

What a fantastic storyline and mostly well-written! After finishing ACOTAR, I was craving more fantasy romance and decided to give this series a try—and so far, it’s off to a great start. That said, it does feel a bit wordy in places, especially during Poppy and Hawke’s conversations, which sometimes seemed unnecessarily long.
Stina Nielsen does an excellent job with the different accents. However, there were a few pronunciations that caught my attention as they differed from what I’m used to in the UK. Overall, I’m really enjoying it!
Onto book two....

I have never listened to Jane Eyre as a talking book and was so delighted with this version read by Juliet Stevenson. It's been a few years since I delved into this masterpiece of writing with its compelling plot and I wasn't disappointed.
Charlotte Bronte has ahead of her time writing this incredible novel as we all know, such a shame it had to be released originally under her male pseudonym Currer Bell.
Charlotte was a trailblazer in literature that gave voice to the struggles of women and I personally am so grateful.

Story
Growing up within the walls of Grave's Orphanage, Nica's imagination burned with fantastical stories. Including that of The Tearsmith, a mysterious craftsman, guilty of having forged all the fears and anxieties in the world. When at seventeen, she's adopted by Mr and Mrs Mulligan, Nica thinks she's leaving her world of dark fairy tales behind her. But the Mulligans also adopt Rigel, an orphan who is as mesmerising and handsome as he is troubled. They share a past filled with grief and isolation, and the ever-gentle Nica starts to fall for her forbidden love.

Hmm ok ish and a bit repetitive!
Reviewed: 24-11-24
Having watched the movie I decided to buy the audio book and get more of the story, it kept me listening but at times I found it toxic and disturbing.
It could have been a lot shorter had the author stopped mentioning Rigel's dark eyes, his raven black hair, being a wolf, the words 'fragile', 'broken' and Nica's 'band aids'!! We get it!
Nica was described as innocent and naïve but quite often she's downright stupid and I found myself shouting at the book 'ffs Nica'. 😂
There's such a lack of communication too, so many issues could have been sorted out it everyone had just talked properly especially about them being in love and the adoption. Lots of mountains made out of molehills!
On the plus side the narration was excellent, though a bit slow so I recommend listening to it on a higher speed.

Story
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

My first Elle Kennedy book which I felt had authentic and relatable characters, it blended romance with some more serious themes. Not being familiar with the American college system (I'm British) with fraternities, sororities, and the unique culture of college sports Kennedy brought that environment to life.
A shout out to the narrators too who did a great job 👏🏻👏🏻
