Story
Bristol 1939. At forty years of age, Mary Anne Randall still turns heads. With an abusive husband spending most of his wages on beer, she has resigned herself to be the sole breadwinner to protect her family and keep the wolves from the door. In order to make ends meet, Mary Anne runs a pawnbroking business from the wash house at the end of the garden. Following the outbreak of war an opportunity presents itself to escape her loveless marriage and find true love. Will she take that chance, or carry on living just for her children and not for herself?

Story
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Story
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

It's old world charm simplicity

This story took me back to a bygone age of charm and sophistication and the simplicity of life. Although it was in essence a simple story it taught us much about good manners and breeding and the story of these 3 ladies was riveting. I couldn't wait to listen to it. Superbly read. I was drawn in by the reader and I felt I was there in the place with these ladies

Story
Kate Irving arrives at her grandfather’s cottage at Frenchman’s Creek in the dead of night with her young son, a small suitcase and little else. Its scattered community of fishermen, farmers, artists and jetsetters barely bat an eyelid, because theirs is a rarefied world, tucked beneath the lush forest that lines the banks of the Helford Estuary, deep in the heart of Cornwall, where life is slow and people generally mind their own business. Unless, of course, your grandfather happens to be a pillar of the local community....

Story
When fiery Bridget Cummings advertised for a lodger, she did not expect a policeman to apply for the room. She wasn't fond of the coppers, believing them to be traitors to the poor of Whitechapel, but her younger brother and sister moved PC Fred Billings in the moment Bridget's back was turned, and she seemed to have little say in the matter. Still, she had to admit that she was glad of his company in the walk back from her late-night washing up job, particularly when a young girl was found in a nearby street with her throat cut.

Although a gruesome tale it was tempered by the humourous characters brilliantly acted and portrayed by Carla Mendoza.
The story was historically well thought through to reveal the the times and conditions of the Victorian era in East London at the time. .

Story
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Story
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, it’s her first time meeting the neighbours. And it’s the first time she discovers her husband, Robert, is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live - a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things don’t happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom.

Story
Daisy is a black baby adopted into a white family in rural 1970’s England. Alienation and loss of identity dominate her childhood. After discovering she was conceived through child rape, she begins a lifelong mission to find and prosecute her birth father using the only irrefutable evidence left. Her own DNA. But justice isn’t just for her birth mother. She too, is a victim, and when the world around her doesn’t agree, she is forced to reckon with external and internal powers out of her control.

Interesting walk through time.
Reviewed: 29-02-24
It was interesting listening to Daisy’s story as told through her own eyes. And while I have every sympathy for her predicament I also had sympathy for her adopted Mum Venessa. While a lot of adopted children love their adopted parents as their own Daisy it seems did not . I understood Vanessa’s pain at being rejected by Daisy.
You cannot rewrite history Daisy. Life was as it was back then and you were lucky to have been given a wonderful home and upbringing by parents who loved you.
Instead of turning your back on your Mum ( Venessa) why did you not trust and love her enough to involve her into finding your roots. Instead you pushed her away and hurt her. Talk about ungrateful. All you seemed interested in was hurting your birth parents and rejecting the people who chose you and gave you a good life. You came across as consumed by hatred for the life you had been given. Shame on you . That journey was all about you and in some ways it should have been but you went too far in persecuting your father, not because he shouldn’t have been prosecuted but because it was your birth mothers job to do that, not yours. . All I got from your story was “Oh poor me” . Your parents weren’t racial but I think you are. .
