Story
In this timely and enlightening audiobook, Cal Newport introduces a philosophy for technology use that has already improved countless lives. Digital minimalists are all around us. They're the calm, happy people who can hold long conversations without furtive glances at their phones. They can have fun with friends and family and eat out at restaurants without the obsessive urge to document the experience...Now, Newport gives us a name for this quiet movement and makes a case for its urgency in our tech-saturated world.

An interesting enough story but I didn’t find it particularly engaging or insightful on the usubject of minimalism. Felt more like random diary entries that I found far too detailed into the minutiae of his life. Ok

Tedious and trite

Whilst the key messages of the 5am club might actually be decent, I found the story ridiculously over the top - double rainbows and butterflies abound, I was just waiting for a unicorn to wander into the scene and poop some kind of all curing glitter poop that would allow the characters to elevate their lives further. On a more serious note as well, it doesn’t feel like very practical advice for people with kids, whose mornings often start at 5am anyway, but through necessity of breastfeeding for 20 mins then dealing with laundry loads. I do like the idea of carving out some time for yourself but the book seemed quite out of touch with reality. And two 90 minute massages a week, that would cost about the same as my mortgage after a month. Comes across as privileged without much realism.
