Didn’t like it

As someone brought up in a multicultural non-racist household I found this book to be arrogant and accusing and couldn’t finish it -sorry!
This is a great shame as I have been a long time admirer of Akala and have recommended his work to many friends and colleagues!

Story
Homage to Catalonia is George Orwell’s account of his experiences fighting in the Spanish Civil War, and a portrait of disillusionment with his early politics. Orwell’s experiences include being shot in the neck by a sniper, and being forced into hiding as factions of the Left battled on the streets of Barcelona. Orwell entered Spain intending to gather an experience worth writing as well as to fight Fascism, and wrote Homage to Catalonia within months of his return.

Not Orwell’s Best
Reviewed: 11-04-18
A fairly bland and mundane telling of Orwell’s activities and thoughts during the Civil War and although I am a massive Dan if his this book failed to stir the imagination as he normally does!
If this had been my introduction to Orwell I may not have continued to the other classics that he is responsible for!

Story
Ramesh has built his shop up over the course of 30 years, and it is a firmly entrenched feature of the local area. He is ably assisted by Dave, a 40-something underachiever who shares Ramesh's love of the art of shopkeeping, even if he is treated like a slave. Then, of course, there are Ramesh's sons, both surly and not particularly keen on old-school shopkeeping. However, they are the natural successors to the business, and Ramesh is keen to pass all his worldly wisdom on to them - whether they like it or not....

My first introduction to Potter
Reviewed: 18-07-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Book 1 to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the printed version but would imagine that Stephen Fry's magical narration adds to the story.
What other book might you compare Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Book 1 to, and why?
The Hobbit - as it's an introduction to a different world of alternative mythical creatures.
Which character – as performed by Stephen Fry – was your favourite?
Hermione - as he added a humorous twist to her fairly stoic character.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I think that's already been somewhat covered.
Any additional comments?

However, as with all great political plans, some animals see a bigger share of the rewards than others and the animals start to question their supposed utopia.

But he slides instead into a self-induced poverty that destroys his creativity and his spirit. Brilliantly narrated and 'acted' by Richard E Grant - who brings to life the array of characters within the novel - this is an absolute must for every budding poet and literary wannabe!

What happens to the body during a high-speed chute? What tactics must teams employ to win the day, the jersey, the grand tour? How does a domestique keep going to the end of a stage once his job is done and his body exhausted?

Having been a fan of road racing for a number of years this book allows access to what it is actually like to be a world class cyclist over the period of a year!
The flashbacks to previous years are a welcome historical reminder of Davids previous experiences and fit in extremely well!
Laugh out loud moments contrast with 'watery eye' time as we get to fully understand the intense competition involved at this level together with the respect and camaraderie that such intensity at this higher echelon brings!
Superbly written and perfectly brilliant narration make this one of the best books that I have ever heard/listened to!
I cannot rate or recommend this experience highly enough and want to listen to it again immediately!
