DNF!!
Reviewed: 21-03-25
I had to DNF this series as I found myself skipping chapters. Not sure what it is about this series but I hate the way the FMC is written. She just got on my nerves and threw tantrums like a child. She act more like a 12yr old than a 24yr old. I think the only reason I got to book 3 was for the narrator who is one of my favourites

4 taboos in one book
Reviewed: 13-03-25
I love taboo books. Step brothers, why choose, age gap and teacher romances are some of my favourites. This book has all of those. I would love the mean girl to get her comeuppance quicker as I find that stuff in books frustrating and drives me up the wall especially as these characters are supposed to be in their early to mid twenties and not in high school. This is dual narration which I thought wouldn’t be the case as the prequel Just a summer fling is done in duet narration. I would love book 2 to be produced in duet but that’s my preference. Saying that Bridget and Jake Bordeaux did a fantastic job as per usual.

Story
My universe has been turned upside down. Not only am I no longer human, I’m also the most powerful elemental the world has seen in centuries. And I have no idea how to wield the power coursing through my veins. Did I mention I also have four fated mates? The charmer, the gentle giant, the psychopath, and the cruel prince who would rather kill me than kiss me. Throw in mean girls, assassins, and kings out for our blood, and I’m having a rough freshman year.

The first book started off so well. How many times does an FMC need to get hurt or nearly die do you need in one book. It even ended with her getting hurt again. I really want to finish this series but now not sure.

It was supposed to be simple. All of that changed in a single breath. Because it turns out I'm not human. And I just knocked out the power on an entire city block. In a split second, all of my carefully-laid plans go up in smoke. There's no chance for college because I'm being hauled off to Kingwood Academy. They say it's for my own protection and those around me. But I know one thing for sure . . . I'm not welcome here.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

I have to say I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and is my first from this author . The FMC was a bit whinny but she had a slight back bone which I’m finding less and less for FMC. The ending was a little disappointing and could have been better, just wondering if the author ended the book the way she did so there could be another book. Loved the duet narration. The narrators did a fantastic job as per usual

Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. These type of books that multiple characters should be produced in a duet style format. The poor narrator was fighting a loosing battle with the amount of characters she had to narrate and half the time I didn’t know what character was saying what and by chapter 15 I can’t tell you what happened as I switched off. Instead of bringing out these dramatized adaptations just produce these type of books as duet. The only reason I decided to purchase this audiobook was because someone said it has more than one narrator and I stupidly thought the book was in duet.

What I love about this book is it’s a little dark in the beginning and if this is your first book by this author I highly recommend her Captured Earth series too.
What is different about this author I feel she writes how people would be if that world was real. What happens in the beginning of this book I can see a certain orange man in charge of the US would do to people who are disabled if he was in power in this time line.
The FMC is brave and determined and I love characters like that. My only is issue is that it’s dual POV so it needed two narrators although the narrator did a fantastic job it needed two of them. Saying that I’m still going to get the next books in the series.

When I started this series I can honestly say I thought Mina would be either San’ten’s or He’rox’s love interest but turns out she’s San’ten’s. The reason I love this series is because it’s a little dark (check content and trigger warnings) the author has written exactly how I would see humanity would react and how men would be towards women. The FMC is written to be strong and I love that as most author do not write them like that.
Now I was a tiny bit disappointed with the male narrator that was chosen for this book I felt he was being to dramatic with this character and felt he wasn’t grumpy enough. The previous narrators did his voice exactly how I would imagine he sounded like. The female narrator did a fantastic job. I hope for rebirth the author chooses a different male narrator. There’s some fantastic ones I’ve seen on TikTok that are getting started in the industry that I can picture doing He’rox’s voice perfectly.

Story
Zed is dead. I watched him die in my arms. But I refuse to let this be the end. My father has the power to bring him back. And if he refuses to, I’ll go into the pit of souls and get him out myself. I’m warned that if I do this, that he won’t be the same. That there's no guarantee that what I pull out of the pit will be my Zed. I’m too stricken with grief to care. Zed would move heaven and hell to get to me, and I plan on doing the same thing. If Zed doesn’t remember me and the love we shared, I’ll make him. I’m going to do everything in my power to get my mate back. Even if it kills me.

I have to admit I was a tiny bit disappointed on the direction the last book went. It didn’t go how I thought it would and was expecting more drama. I think because I re listened to the series before this one was released and pictured things going a different direction so although it ended the way it did. I was expecting so much more than was written. Saying all that this series is still one of my top ten favourites. The narration was top tier as per usual

When I show up in Black Claw with bruises on my face and a split lip, I’m not looking for another man. I’ve made enough bad choices in that department. I’m ready to lie low with my best friend and pray to god that my ex doesn’t come to find me. But Axel isn’t like any of the guys I’ve been drawn to before. I’m not ready for a new relationship. I know that. But Axel sneaks inside my heart before I’ve even realized he’s there, and his touch sets my body alight with desire.

The story was ok. It does contain DV in so check your triggers. This is a two POV and only one narrator. I understand that these book cost a lot to produce with very little in return. There are a lot of female narrators who have a fantastic voice range unfortunately the narrator for this book sounds like a child playing adult.
