Story
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

Love the film and always intended to read the book but I did it this way instead. Loved the narration. Really brings it life.
Overall story is really good too. The power struggles, the challenges and marching on towards the end that was inevitable.

I vaguely remember the watching the film but it was so long ago I came to this nearly fresh. Some difficult parts in here. Lots of violent, sexual imagery. But, I found, quite a lot of humour in there too. Great narration too. Managed to really pace and deliver the words to a high standard.

Story
In 1985, Peter Everett landed the job as Superintendent of Southwark Mortuary. In just six years he’d gone from lowly assistant to running the UK’s busiest murder morgue. He couldn’t believe his luck. What he didn’t know was that Southwark, operating in near-Victorian conditions, was a hotbed of corruption. Attendants stole from the dead, funeral homes paid bribes, and there was a lively trade in stolen body parts and recycled coffins. Set in the fascinating pre-DNA and psychological profiling years of 1985-87, this memoir tells a gripping and gruesome tale.

Really enjoyed this. Lots of good detail from a man with a fascinating career. The narration goes a bit Alan Bennet at times, which is fine because I like him too.

Story
In September 1935, Dr Buck Ruxton strangled his wife, Isabella, whom he suspected of having an affair, in their Lancashire home while their three children slept in their beds. When the nanny, Mary Rogerson, disturbed him in the act, he killed her, too. To hide his crimes, he dismembered and chopped up the bodies, removing any distinguishing features, before he disposed of them in a ravine on the Scottish borders. It took the genius of professors Sydney Smith and John Glaister, and their groundbreaking forensic techniques, to piece together the identities of the bodies.

Not a case I’d come across before. I like the backstory work and the details about people who worked on the case. Understanding the full context of the time and the people involved was good. It gives you a lot more information about other notorious cases of the time.

It’s easy to take this and apply it to modern day happenings. It’s something we should all read and take note of how many of these issues are still true.
