Story
In this unnamed city, to be interesting is dangerous. Middle sister, our protagonist, is busy attempting to keep her mother from discovering her maybe-boyfriend and to keep everyone in the dark about her encounter with Milkman. But when first brother-in-law sniffs out her struggle, and rumours start to swell, middle sister becomes 'interesting'. The last thing she ever wanted to be. To be interesting is to be noticed and to be noticed is dangerous. Milkman is a tale of gossip and hearsay, silence and deliberate deafness. It is the story of inaction with enormous consequences.

Ingenius revealing of mindsets during the Troubles
Reviewed: 07-01-23
I was addicted to this book from the outset. it is perfectly narrated with a clear Northern voice; one can never settle into the strangeness of the living situation of- we presume- one of the roughest areas in Belfast in the Troubles in the 70's. It is told in a very explanatory and disjointed way that somehow works perfectly. It explores abhorable treatment of women, stalking, hypocrisy. I hope Anna Burns has another novel as consuming as this one.

Story
The compelling, inspiring (often comic) coming-of-age story of Trevor Noah, set during the twilight of apartheid and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed. One of the comedy world's brightest new voices, Trevor Noah is a light-footed but sharp-minded observer of the absurdities of politics, race and identity, sharing jokes and insights drawn from the wealth of experience acquired in his relatively young life.

Colourful and crazy

I was surprised and shocked throughout this book. Great story telling from Noah. It casually highlights how recent the insanely prejudiced apartheid regime carried on until.

Story
Kane & Abel for a new generation!!
They had only one thing in common - William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless Polish immigrant. Two men born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, their paths were destined to cross in the ruthless struggle to build a fortune.
The marvellous story, spanning 60 years, of two powerful men linked by an all-consuming hatred, brought together by fate to save - and finally destroy - each other.

Skilled narrator, plausible storyline chauvinistic
Reviewed: 13-01-21
Excellent narrator, managing to do realistic voices across the life of the same characters. Pity about the overshadowing chauvenistic content throughout the book. It ruined my enjoyment of the story and empathy for the author. Well crafted story, no less.

Story
Shocking and controversial when it was first published, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of the Joad family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land.

Incredible hist fict heart warming&breaking
Reviewed: 10-01-18
Wonderful narrator, he put a lot of thought into each character. I can't imagine a better narrator. I didn't want it to end. incredible historical fiction, often heart warming moments where your heart is breaking simultaneously, for each of the characters. I feel like I learnt from it- the book is full of wisdom.
