Story
Fleeing a troubled past, immigrant fortune teller Tao roams the dusty countryside with only her mule for company, telling small fortunes, for small prices. Big fortunes come with big consequences . . . which she knows from bitter experience. It's a lonely life, until she encounters an ex-mercenary and a (semi) reformed thief, who recruit her into their desperate search for a lost child. Soon, they're joined by a baker with a knead for adventure, and - of course - a slightly magical cat.

I’m glad I picked this up, I enjoyed the book but found the audio a little flat! I know it’s cosy fantasy but I just didn’t love the way it was read!

The fourth book in the Beasts of the Briar series, a spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling filled with morally grey characters, a stupidly hot villain and a Princess who has found her Prince Charming. All four of them.

I loved the first three books but this felt like it lost all direction. We have basically moved no where in an entire book it’s begun and ended in pretty much the same place. Without some huge magic deus ex machina, you’ve destroyed some of my favourite characters and just for weak plot points they came left field like “I need drama so I’ll destroy my main cast” don’t worry though because I’ll bring them all back to life later!! It’s utterly ridiculous! O and the spice just exploded into “well I’ve got nothing better to write”!

What a disappointment, i alway knew CC was the weakest of the three series, but it really showed in this book. I really wanted to love it but it was Luke warm at best! We have repeated ideas, storyline, plot twists and plot drops and if I’m honest I struggled to get excited. There just wasn’t enough new and exciting plot to hook me.

Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

I really wanted to love this book but nothing happened and the big twist was disappointing. It’s no stakes currently because with all the death it never feels close or real it’s all too out of balance.

A good YA series
Reviewed: 24-11-23
This book ended the first arc of the skyward series well. It’s clear by the ending that there’s still so much yet to come. These characters are far from finished and I’m excited to see where the series goes from here. Like many I do agree because it’s only an ending, it lost the gravity it needed to finish strong. I didn’t feel as strongly as I usually do at the end of a Sanderson book or series, but I still had a good time and will be happy to read the next one.

I’m not say in I find like the final book, but I found my self underwhelmed. It just didn’t have enough emotion or action it all felt a little flat. Worse still I’d guessed all the plot twists before they happened so it didn’t feel epic as the other books had.

Story
This is the story of King Midas. Or that's what we're always told. The Golden King with his palace of riches and me, the girl he turned to gold. Upon the snowy mountains in the Sixth Kingdom of Orea, I'm locked away in Highbell Castle. It's for my safety, I'm told. Away from the dangers of the world below. No one can get in. Apart from him. King Midas rescued me from the streets. He gave me food, shelter and his heart. I promised to love him forever. But when war comes to the kingdom, a deal is struck—and I am at the heart of the bargain. Everything I know starts to change.
