This is a truly excellent reading of The Truth, in which the Discworld gets its first printing press, and its first newspaper. Stephen Briggs really does it justice, with his brilliant narration.

Story
Maurice, a streetwise tomcat, has the perfect money-making scam. Everyone knows the stories about rats and pipers, and Maurice has a stupid-looking kid with a pipe, and his very own plague of rats—strangely educated rats. But in Bad Blintz, the little con suddenly goes down the drain. For someone there is playing a different tune and now the rats must learn a new word. EVIL. It's not a game any more. It's a rat-eat-rat world. And that might only be the start.

A hugely enjoyable listen!

The book, as all Pratchett books, is marvellous!
The reading by Ariyon Bakare is spot on! I had liked Stephen Briggs' performance on the older audiobook (I had especially liked his Michael Caine - like Darktan), but was annoyed by the American accent he had, for some reason, given to the Amazing Maurice. Ariyon Bakare's Maurice really sounds like a British cat would sound (if said cat spoke in English).
Highly recommended!

The first of a great series!
Reviewed: 30-12-22
I am a huge fan of Craig Johnson’s Walt Longmire series. I have read most of the books and I really love them! They are a mixture of mystery and police procedural drama, with great characters one would love to meet in real life. They have many laugh-out-loud moments, and are imbued with great humanity.
That said, listening to the books narrated by the great George Guidall, is an even better experience. George Guidall is truly fantastic in this series!

Walt doesn't recognize the mystery woman, but she seems to know him and claims to have something she must return to Connally. With his daughter, Cady, and his undersheriff Vic Moretti in Philadelphia for the holidays, Walt is at loose ends, and despite the woman' s reticence to reveal her identity, he agrees to help her.

Story
In The Butchering Art, historian Lindsey Fitzharris re-creates a critical turning point in the history of medicine, when Joseph Lister transformed surgery from a brutal, harrowing practice to the safe, vaunted profession we know today.
Victorian operating theatres were known as 'gateways of death', Fitzharris reminds us, since half of those who underwent surgery didn't survive the experience. This was an era when a broken leg could lead to amputation, and surgeons were still known to ransack cemeteries to find cadavers.

A great ending for a great trilogy
Reviewed: 07-07-22
Smiley's People is the third part of John LeCarre's 'Karla trilogy'. It is a great book, almost as great as the first part of the trilogy ('Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'), with George Smiley (the most subtle & humane spy in spy fiction - and probably the greatest) taking again centre stage for the endgame of his long confrontation with his nemesis, the Soviet spy master 'Karla'. It is, once again, excellently read by Michael Jayston.

Story
Mr George Smiley is small, podgy, and at best, middle-aged. He is disillusioned, wrestles with idleness, and has been deserted by his beautiful wife. He is also compassionate, ruthless, and a senior British intelligence officer in short-lived retirement from the Circus, the British Secret Service organisation situated in London. But Moscow centre has infiltrated a mole into the Circus, and it's more than likely the perpetrator is Karla, Smiley's old adversary and his opposite number in Moscow.
