Shallow caricatures and misogynistic

Terrible, implausible, irritating, shallow characters and anti women. I love a gory crime story but this was truly awful. Stopped after a couple of hours listening.

Story
My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shape-shifter...and the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack. Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats and an occasional troll.

A woman vanishes in the fog up on "the Hill", an area locally known for its tranquillity and peace. The police are not alarmed; people usually disappear for their own reasons. But when a young girl, an old man, and even a dog disappear, no one can deny that something untoward is happening in this quiet cathedral town.

Not for me
Reviewed: 14-06-20
I enjoy crime literature, like serial killer stuff, like a strong female lead. Everything here that should have come together but somehow didn't. Kept me mildly engaged until about an hour from the end, but huge disappointment in twist. I did 2 for 1 so have 2nd book in series. Not sure I'll bother.

Story
There was a time when the Red Gods ruled the land. The Dark Lady and her horde dealt in death and blood and fire. That time has long since passed, and the neighbouring kingdoms of Mireces and Rilpor hold an uneasy truce. The only blood spilled is confined to the border, where vigilantes known as Wolves protect their kin and territory at any cost. But after the death of his wife, King Rastoth is plagued by grief, leaving the kingdom of Rilpor vulnerable.

Too many characters
Reviewed: 28-07-18
Had high expectations from other reviews and it's extremely rare I give up on a book but no, this one I struggled to finish, too many characters not grabbed by any of them, gave up in the end. Liked the narrator but for me the story had too many starts, too many characters introduced without development so I got confused and had zero interest in the end.

This is the 2nd book, loved it and feel emotionally scarred by some utterly gruesome bits but it's all part of the story. He weaves the plot in an intricate pattern that's fast paced and unpredictable. Intelligent fantasy, totally recommend. Great narrator too.

Captured me from start to finish and hungry for more. An intricate tale which weaves in the story of the planet and people without lengthy explanations. Exciting, intelligent, enthralling, political machinations and assassins all told through the eyes of a girl as she trains to be a red sister. To quote the book, She lives to hear the screams of her enemies. Also tremendous narrator. Loved it and want to hear more.

Any additional comments?
Gripping and spooky story, interesting background of young men between the wars. Totally scared me in parts especially one night driving home late down country roads while listening to some scarier chapters. I felt somewhat let down by the ending though, something didn't quite hang together and felt a bit rushed, really good story for the most part, great narration and delivery of the characters.
