Story
Reacher never backs down from a problem. And he's about to find a big one, on a deserted road in Arizona, where a car has crashed into the only tree for miles around. Minutes later, Reacher is heading into town. To introduce himself to the shadowy crew who made it happen. Their boss has a terrifying reputation, and the stakes are high. Just to get in and meet him, Reacher is going to have to achieve the impossible. To get answers will be even harder. There are people in this hostile, empty place who would rather die than reveal their secrets.

After enjoying 24 Reacher books I'm sad to say the last 2 have been distinctly sub par and disappointing, the story wanders and is weak, the phraseology has become more repetitive than ever with whole sections now seemingly being cut and pasted with minimal editing. Even Jeff Harding, to my mind one of the very best readers, could do nothing to make this book flow. Lee Child announced his retirement last year, the duet approach with his brother is a failure and to my mind he should have gone out at the top of his game and taken Reacher with him.

Story
Life was a bed of roses for Patrick Aldermann when Great Aunt Florence collapsed in her rose-bed and he inherited Rosemont House with its splendid gardens. But when his boos, 'Dandy' Dick Elgood, suggested to Peter Pascoe that Aldermann was a murderer, then retracted the accusation, the inspector was left with a thorny problem. Though by then a police cadet had dug up some very interesting information about Patrick's elegant wife.

I don't often leave bad reviews but the story is bitty, difficult to follow and the performance is bland and wooden - on the plus side it was on sale and so only £3 wasted

Story
A large country mansion. A locked room. A gruesome murder. Russian oligarch Alexander Volkov has invited 1,000 guests to a party at his palatial Surrey residence, Westgrave Hall. But while giving a private tour of the library, a gunman kills Volkov, wounding his ex-wife and slaying her new beau. Nothing makes sense to DCI Craig Gillard. In the blood-spattered crime scene there are no forensic traces of anyone else involved, CCTV shows no one entered or left the library, and everyone seems to have an alibi.

Having quite enjoyed the first six books in the series I was bitterly disappointed with this rambling and confused story with an unbelievable plot, The narration was sub par from Marston York who in previous books was far less wooden and did a far better job.

Bravery. Honor. Sacrifice. These are more than mere words to trained Marine sniper Nathan McBride. He’s never backed away from danger and he’s not about to start now, even if it means confronting the cold-blooded interrogator who tortured him to the brink of death more than a decade ago.

Jack Reacher gets off the bus in a sleepy no-name town outside Nashville, Tennessee. He plans to grab a cup of coffee and move right along. Not going to happen. The town has been shut down by a cyber attack. At the centre of it all, whether he likes it or not, is Rusty Rutherford. He's an average IT guy, but he knows more than he thinks.

I have enjoyed listening to all the previous Reacher books and have been looking forward to this release for months but was disappointed to find Reacher to have lost his edge, the story to meander and regrettably come to the conclusion that perhaps it's time for him to retire before the character deteriorates still further. I have read that Lee Child considered killing him off in the last book he wrote and perhaps he should have done. The only redeeming feature for me was an excellent narration by Jeff Harding.

With respect to Phil Campion this is why writers should not narrate their own work. What is a good story and based on personal experience is spoilt by poor narration.

Two years ago, Darren Street made a name for himself as the man who rooted out corruption in the district attorney's office. Now the hotheaded young lawyer is in the public eye yet again - this time, accused of murder. Jalen Jordan retained Street for what seemed to be a minor traffic violation, but when evidence turned up linking Jordan to the death of two boys, Street wanted out of the case.

Nice story well written, some drama, some twists, some violence, some tears but the goodies came through at the end. The only downer for me personally was the narrator who had an odd twang to his voice but others may not object and it wasn't bad enough to spoil the listen

Elliot Rook QC is one of the greatest barristers of his generation. He is also a complete fraud. Elliot Rook is the epitome of a highly successful, old Etonian QC. Or so everyone believes. In fact, he is an ex-petty criminal with a past that he has spent decades keeping secret. Until now.... An unidentified young woman of Middle Eastern origin has been found murdered on the outskirts of Rook’s home town. Billy Barber - a violent football hooligan and white-supremacist - is accused of her murder. Barber insists that Rook must defend him.

An excellent story start to finish, I found it difficult to turn off and finished it in less than 24 hours. Written by a barrister so the court and interview scenes are both well written and informative. Hopefully there will be a sequel to follow.

Story
Mickey Haller is a Lincoln lawyer, a criminal defence attorney who operates out of the back of his car, a Lincoln, taking whatever cases the system throws in his path. He's been in the business a long time, and he knows just how to work it. When a Beverly Hills rich boy is arrested for brutally beating a woman, Haller has his first high-paying client in years. The evidence mounts on the defence's side, and Haller might even be in the rare position of defending a client who is actually innocent.

Story
The peaceful life of a village in Wiltshire is suddenly shattered by a disaster which strikes without reason or explanation, leaving behind it a trail of misery and horror. A yawning, bottomless crack spreads through the earth, out of which creeps a fog that resembles no other. Whatever it is, it must be controlled; for wherever it goes it leaves behind a trail of disaster as hideous as the tragedy that marked its entry into the world. The fog, quite simple, drives people insane.
