Story
Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive. This was no ordinary terror attack. The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland.

Story
Adam Turner works the mid-dawn shift at his local radio station. From 12am to 6am, it’s his job to fill the airtime with old songs, inane chatter, and the occasional talkback caller. It’s a long way from his prime-time slot from over a decade ago, when he was a star in the making. Now there’s no producers, no billboards, no stakes, and not many listeners. His frequent callers are drunk students headed home from a night out, or long-range truck drivers. He is completely alone in the studio from midnight until dawn every night. And then one night at 12:45am, he gets a different kind of call.

Rob Beckett never seems to fit in. At work, in the middle-class world of television and comedy, he’s the laddie, cockney geezer, but to his mates down the pub in south-east London, he’s the theatrical one, a media luvvie. Even at home, his wife and kids are posher than him. In this hilarious exploration of class, Rob compares his life growing up as a working-class kid to the life he lives now, trying to understand where he truly belongs.

Story
Where do comedians come from? Why is it that one person is a funny bloke down the pub while another actually makes a living by standing up in front of an audience telling jokes? And where does all that material come from? Well, young Lee McKillop used to wonder that too. Growing up in his parents’ pub, small and wiry in a world of bigger and chunkier specimens, Lee quickly learned that cracking jokes was a way to get attention.

Mmmm love the stand up not so much the book
Reviewed: 24-11-22
Unlike others in my library this hung about too long
Really struggled to get through it
I think if I had picked up the physical book as opposed to the audiobook I might never have picked it up again after chapter 4
Here is the honest truth:
Though the life of Lee and his experience was interesting and often funny when tied to fictional trips to psychiatrists office I felt this wasn’t the product of the funny man himself but crowbarred in by demanding editors not a good concept.
Would have me best to swap these chapters with the journey taken to be the man on TV
Take Bob Mortimers Any Away for example
Alternating story telling between the life and times then to major life changing moments
If you could do it all again or if ever edited lose the psychiatrists office

He made his breakthrough playing for Distillery in Northern Ireland before joining Brian Clough’s legendary Nottingham Forest team, becoming one of the few players who made the epic journey from the Second Division to the glory years: winning the First Division championship, two League Cups and back-to-back European Cups. O’Neill represented Northern Ireland over sixty times.

Like all best dramas and stories
Something early on has to happen as to grab a listeners/readers attention and boy does he deliver!
By paragraph one of chapter one you learn that “sensible”Martin was never always so, sharing a story that to win affection from sister rather than walk downstairs on sight he thought it would be wise to jump out the window from height all to get a hug and it then for some unknown reason he starts to ram a stick in his eye….I’m surprised Martin has got this far to have a book 12hrs long and glad he has.
The book catalogues a fairytale career as a player and as a manager but it is more than that, chance encounters, characters of the game, family.
The delivery/performance is 1st Class.

Story
Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have been friends for 30 years, but when life intervened, what was once a joyous and spontaneous friendship dwindled to the odd phone call or occasional catch up. Then, Glory Be! They were both diagnosed with heart disease and realised that time is short. They'd better spend it fishing...So they dusted off their kits, chucked on their waders and ventured into the achingly beautiful British countryside to fish, rediscover the joys of their friendship and ruminate on some of life's most profound questions....

No intrest in fishing whatsoever, however maybe just maybe
this from all that I've heard might just provoke me!
Both boys over share with humor and dignity and though many fishing references and insights shared the other merranderings make for an entertaining listen.
if you have a credit it wont disappoint if you have two credits buy "and away" by Bob
