The Commandant at Birkenau, Schwarzhuber, noticed her long beautiful hair, and forced her separation from the other women prisoners. Cilka did what she had to in order to survive Auschwitz. And yet after Russian soldiers liberated Auschwitz in 1945, Cilka was charged as a collaborator and sentenced to serve a 15-year sentence for 'sleeping with the enemy'. An unbelievable story of bravery, incredible resilliance and how one young person's strength and courage can be of such benefit to so many others.
Equally as harrowing a listen as The Tattooist of Aushwitz but written and narrated superbly.

Really disliked a lot of things about this book. The story line was dull and not at all gripping. It was unbelievable and not interesting enough to make it thrilling or exciting. The narrator’s child voice was grating and I couldn’t wait for those sections to finish.
It was very hard to stick with it until the end.

Story
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust.

I didnt hate this story but I found myself at chapter 21 still waiting for the apex of the story that never actually came.
The narrator is good but the story itself I felt just had too many side stories and none of them really very gripping or interesting.

Philippa Gregory's first story in the best-selling Wideacre trilogy. A compelling tale of passion and intrigue set in the 18th century. From the author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover. Wideacre Hall, set in the heart of the English countryside, is the ancestral home that Beatrice Lacey loves. But as a woman of the 18th century, she has no right of inheritance. Corrupted by a world that mistreats women, she sets out to corrupt others.

A really interesting listen and even though over 20 hours, I was captured throughout.
In this book, the narrator is excellent and added a lot to the story.
The characters are well developed and there is a real toy for the listener between love and hate throughout for the main character Beatrice.
A very good listen and I look forward to listening to the rest of the trilogy.
