Story
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Compelling.

I've read many accounts from defectors from North Korea, this account is just as compelling, desperate, riddled with destitute sadness. I listen to these accounts because I love the fact they escape. In Masaji's case, he holds onto much sadness for various reasons he explains in the book. I hope he does experience happy days in Japan. He is a victim of circumstance, nothing was his fault.

Narrated in a calm, matter of fact style. He helps you to understand people's negative behaviours and also how to come to terms with this. And how you can move on and protect or seperate yourself from these negative influences. Its good. I recommend it. Its a gentle pep talk. It will probably help you.

Ridiculous narration
Reviewed: 04-10-21
The narrator speaks with a mocking juvenile tone, he even belches loudly in the first chapter around the 1:25 mark.
It's a shame because the actual written material seems very interesting and well researched. I'm going to persevere despite the ridiculous narration but the author should probably have it re-narrated as most people couldn't tolerate such an idiot of a narrator. However, I will obstinately persevere.

Barest minimum information about terpenes. Lots of fluff. More of a basic introductory essay about essential oils, with some supplementary information about cannabis.
Nice narration though I would listen to the narrator read other books. However, I am disappointed by this books content.

I am enjoying being part of what feels like a real time lesson. I appreciate the tutors style and it feels very authentic, I really feel part of a class. The slower discussion is quite unique in the audiobook, youtube and language app world. I have learned many nuances about the Russian language so far that are totally lacking from the other sources I use (and they are many).
I feel like this is the closest thing to actually attending a Russian class with a brilliant teacher.
Learning a language does require patience, and if you have patience, you may enjoy this series too.

The Bible is often explained with an overwhelming emphasis on the brokenness of the world. This is an attempt to teach the story of the entire Bible in a way that is simple, fresh, and memorable, showing how the story isn't about brokenness, but wholeness. This book does not explain everything. It explains the whole thing.

I really enjoyed this explanatory book. It really was inspiring and moving.
Im not new to bible study, I learned new wonderful insights listening to this.
Not one part was boring. I listened with eager curiosity all the way through.
The narrator/author has a very good style of speaking, calm, not monotone, like he is explaining something he truly believes in.
I definitely recommend. I am left with a sense of happiness after listening.

Story
Saudi Arabia is one of the most closed countries in the world. Nicola Sutcliff decided to go behind the veil for four years, living, working and socialising in Saudi society. Through personal interviews, 30 women share their stories: from world-renowned activists to wives in polygamous households; high-ranking princesses to desert-dwelling bedouins. They talk candidly about the issues most intriguing to a Western audience - driving, sister wives and the religious police - as well as lesser known aspects of their lives....

It was great to listen to so many varied viewpoints.
With one or two, I did feel they were giving an
approved account rather than their own true views. I say that after having read and listened to many biographies. But on the whole I think these stories give a very good insight into the life of modern women in Saudi Arabia.
The narrations were excellent. And I really felt I could envision the women’s situations with the prose.

At the conclusion of World War I, a once promised unified Arab state, which was to include the modern Hejaz, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel, Jordan and Iraq, did not materialize. It contains good information, but it is dull. The composition of the text and narration are monotonous.
I had to pause this book and listen to others, some biographies and YouTube presentations, to get a better feel for the country and it’s people, then I returned to this book. It was an easier listen having familiarised myself quite well with the country, its culture and history. It was still very dull though.
Maybe it would be good for taking notes if you are studying the history of Saudi Arabia, because it contains the key points about Saudi Arabia’s formation, internal organisation and relationships with other countries...
but a difficult listen, if simply for the enjoyment of listening.
