Story
On the fringes of the Cicatrix Maledictum, the Black Templars of the Second Dorean Crusade tear through the void to join the crusade fleet on the sands of Tempest – an ancient, storied shrine world. Assailed by the murderous warbands of the Blood God, the crusade has come to burn the planet clean of the Ruinous Powers once and for all. But when a violent warp storm scatters the fleet, the Dauntless Honour is left battered and alone in the void. Besieged by doubt, Castellan Emeric and his brothers must cling to their faith and carve a way to Tempest.

Decent enough
Reviewed: 08-01-25
The story and performance are okay. Not bad enough to not finish, but not good enough to be a story you finish rapidly. The story is by the numbers for the Black Templars, nothing new or innovative. The narrator seems like they were trying, but never seemed to really get into the story themselves, and was just waiting to finish the job. If you like Black Templars then give it a go, if you’re not really fussed on them, or don’t know much about 40k then try something else. The Gaunt’s Ghosts, Chiapas Cain, or the Ragnar Blackmane books series are good.

ADB always delivers with his Black Library stuff, and having him tell a story about the Inquisition, Grey Knights, The Wolves of Fenris, with a light sprinkling of Wolrd Eaters and Angron is a delight.
Narrator is too level as well and only adds to this high level entry into the Black Library.
A must for all Wolves, Grey Knights and Inquisition fans

A nice collection of short stories and novellas. A few staring just Jurgen, which are a treat. A particular favourite moment was one involving a Nurgle cult and Jurgen, who upon stumbling across Jurgen pay him no attention due them thinking he’s one of them because of his smell.
As usual Ste is on top form portraying Caiphas and Jurgen.

Story
The fortress world of Regium has a proud history, For millennia, it has endured when others have fallen to ruin and damnation, standing defiant in defence of the Imperium of Man. But now it is shaken. Parasitic plagues run rampant, and Regium's citizens are haunted by dreams of horrific monsters feasting upon their flesh and marrow. Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines recognises these signs of an impending Tyranid invasion all too well. Rallying his warriors, the battle-hardened veteran launches a strike force to slaughter the xenos in the outer system, before it can reach Regium.

Narrator doesn’t suit warhanmer.
Reviewed: 05-07-23
Whilst the narrator isn’t bad, he just seems a lack the emotion or have the knowledge of 40K. His northern accents drift between Manchester, Yorkshire and Scouse all in one sentence for the same person. He also pronounced ignominy ig-nominee…
For such an important book as the one to launch 10th edition, you’d have thought GW would have sprung for Toby Longworth, Johnathan Keeble, Stephen Perring, Richard Reed, Christopher Kent, Gareth Armstrong etc etc. One of the established Warhammer narrators.
As I say, the narrator isn’t bad. And I imagine he’d be good for a less bombastic and emotional series as warhammer, or maybe in a few years when he’s got more experience, but at the minute he’s monotone delivery did distract from what was a good story.

Stone cold classic. I remember reading this years ago and finding it a fascinating look into the journey a space wolf takes on his way to become a full Astartes.
You can tell it was written a while ago as some of the lore has clearly changed, but that does not distract from how brilliant the book is.
Excellent narration as well. First time I’ve heard this guy and hope to hear him do more Space Wolves books.

In the 40K universe you he have gods, Demi gods, genetically enhanced gods of war, alien horrors, alien hunger, mutants etc etc.
So it’s nice sometimes to hear about a human, no enhancements, no glorious destiny, no hand of fate pushing him to achieve a Herculean task, just a boy doing his duty.
Main character is 17, plucked by duty from his safe family life and thrust into the 10,000 year old war.
He does his best and does his family proud, but you can’t help but feel the sadness of it all.
This is a true “World War 1 in space” book.
Well paced and written, and top marks for narration.
If you want a break from the over the top glory boys of the Astartes, this is the one for you!

Angry Marines: The Novel.
Reviewed: 21-04-23
The flesh Tearers are always portrayed as barely holding on to the humanity, and this book puts that across, but I feel it went over the top with it. Whilst they are known to be angry and one of the most violent chapters, they are still sons of the Great Angel and should have more about them than just “me angry, me no like what you say, me want to crush you, me thirsty, you look tasty”.
Maybe with the being Primaris could be an excuse as they do not have the grounding a first born raised on cretatia would, surrounded by the chapters home world and history.
Hopefully there is a follow up so we can see if being on the home world does indeed ground and stabilise these angry boys.
Narration is good, it’s not Toby Longworth good, but it’s still good.
Pacing of the book is slow.

No Angron in an Angron book.
Reviewed: 28-02-23
The first hint of Angron actually appearing is around the 2hrs 45min mark, then next one is him actually doing something for about 5 minutes around the 6th hour, than he actually speaks and is fully active in the book around the 9th hour. This is more of a Grey Knight or World Eater book, it’s not an Angron book. So if you’re reading it for more Angron action/lore, best give it a miss. If you just want to read about Grey Knights doing space wizard stuff, this might be for you.
