Injustice
Reviewed: 22-12-24
A poorly produced, the sound quality is woeful, and dreadfully narrated production. The narration is poorly paced, badly pronounced, and unsympathetic to the text. Incorrect emphasis and badly placed pauses leave the listener bemused and disappointed. An injustice that the author should feel aggrieved by.

Story
Epic, entertaining, blasphemous, this is the most influential and controversial of Science Fiction novels. Stranger in a Strange Land caused uproar when it was first published as it savaged conventional religious, sexual, and social ideals. Many years in the future, Valentine Michael Smith's upbringing is exceptional. Orphan child to two astronauts killed in space, he is raised on Mars. Twenty-five years later he is "rescued" and brought back to Earth. The initial enthusiasm of the administration in Smith's safe return is soon dampened by the realisation that they cannot control him.

Story
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Brevity is a good thing in Rome.

Wonderful characterisation of the principals, everyone else seemed a bit one dimensional. Wonderfully narrated and often carried forward on that strength alone. Unusually for Mr Harris this seemed a bit tame, full of detail yet sadly lacking in substance. Difficult subject to make a gripping yarn out of and too staid to be interesting in its own right. That said, its brevity is in its favour.

Well resesrched no doubt, but oddly predictable . Nothing like as flowing or rivetting as previous offerings. Written almost as screenplay, movie rights in mind. Sadly I've seen too many ridiculous movies.
