Really bad editing
Reviewed: 14-03-25
The story had big gaps in it with no context. The author didn't expand the characters or expand the story line. What would have been a good story was very amateurish. I felt it compressed a trilogy into a short series of stories.

Have you ever been on a train and wondered what would happen if you didn’t get off — just carried on to the end of the line? In the throes of a spectacular mid-life crisis and feeling rather unappreciated at home, Katie Frock takes an unplanned journey to London, leaving her supposedly grown-up family behind to figure out how to work the washing machine. Far away in Fancy London, Katie makes new friends, becomes the Banksy of the culinary world and accidentally gets mixed up in some very shady business.

Story
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

very churchy. Poor attempt at accents

would have been a good story but it became very churchy and the terrible attempt at Geordi and Scottish accent were cringe worthy, just sounded like a weird Indian accented language.

Overall the storyline was good. The narration very good but some of the style of speech was not correct for that time period. Sloppy writing.
'who all has' should be
' whom else' other inconsistent speech style was a bit annoying.
Modern speech creeping in now and then. Dialogue was very formal in the early 1800s.
Should be 'enquire' rather than 'ask'. 'What is' rather than 'what's'.

mostly a good story but for someone who has lived over 300 years the main character is a bit 'thick'. The name Zoe is of jewish origin and would not be around in Salem c1740.
Some big pronounciation blunders and far too obvious plot story lines.
For 300 Yr old person, she should be loaded with 300 years to accumulate money.

Story
Hi! I'm Tori Madison, and I hate scrubbing toilets, which is unfortunate because my BFF Hazel and I own Bubbles and Troubles, Blueberry Bay's premier cleaning service. When Mrs. Livingston asked us to sort through the contents of her attic, however, we thought our toilet-scrubbing days were over. That is...until we found her corpse. As if finding our client's body stuffed in a steamer trunk wasn't enough of an upset, someone needed to save her cat from being sent to a local high-kill animal shelter. That person, as it turned out, was me.

A few mistakes for that era.
girl friends is an Americanism not used in England at that time also heroine not hero. Union flag not Union jack. Union Jack is the term for the Union flag on a ship or a term used in Australia...not used in England at that time.
.Bit predictable in places
