Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Another classic episode in the 'Bobiverse'
Reviewed: 01-01-25
An engaging tale that logically builds on the expanding universe of the 'Bobiverse'. Moves along at a pace and with several parallel story lines that gradually come together, with a purpose, at the end of the book. This also sets the scene for the next episode. (Which I intend to follow up. Excellent narration as in the rest of the series.

Story
New York, 1915. RMS Lusitania, one of the world’s most luxurious ocean liners, departs for war-torn Europe. Among those on board is Patrick Gallagher, a civil servant in Her Majesty’s government tasked with escorting a British diplomat back to England. When a fellow passenger is believed to have shot himself in his cabin, Gallagher is asked by the captain to investigate the scene but one crucial detail doesn’t fit. The man’s body was discovered in a locked cabin with the key inside and no gun to be found. Was it really suicide? Or murder?

Murder Mystery afloat...
Reviewed: 19-12-24
A classic 'hotel' murder mystery tale. Cast of numerous, murderous characters and a 'hero' maritime detective struggling against the odds. They're all stuck on a ship which is also at peril as it steadily moves into a war zone. Lots of twists and unexpected turns. Well written, with believable characters and a great period setting. The ending (no suprises) is very well portrayed. Well narrated with an engaging speaker.
This was not my usual genre (SF, modern thrillers, history) but I found this to be an excellent audio tale that I found hard to put down. Will definitely seek out more of this authors work.

Another classic volume in the Discworld series. A standalone but one that's probably better appreciated if the reader is already familiar with the conventions and vagaries of the various occupants of this world. A well observed and constructed story line with an engaging narration. Very enjoyable listening.

An efficient and well balanced critique of the weaknesses and failures of our 'so called' democracy. Vested interests hold unseen but near total control of the state, its government and Parliament. It's created an elected dictatorship with little mind to make government more transparent, accountable or equitable. Apart from weak and failing government structures there is also the poisoning and unaccountable influence of social media and media billionaires who suppress any challenge to their extensive power.
On the one hand informative, on the other, depressing. Interesting and well narrated. You'll certainly be well informed after reading/ listening to this volume.

This is an American take on the treatment of and living with Parkinson’s. Many life experiences are universal and relatable. The main divergence is that everything there goes through, is led by, the first port of call, etc is through rather expensive medical specialists. Unless you are insured (and even that has limitations) or wealthy then the various scans, tests, medications they are keen on will soon bankrupt you. If you can pay you'll move swiftly through their medical provision. Good narration.

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Yet again our intrepid 'hero' gets dragged into all sorts of barely believable shenanigans. Great cast of comic characters brought to life by the excellent narration. Many incredibly funny situations that made me laugh out loud - both on reading and on reflection. The author must do a lot of research and have an extremely vivid imagination to have written this storyline. Hard to put down. Hopefully another volume is on its way.

An engaging and informed ideosyncratic romp through Mark's musical biography and opinions. His engaging narrative holds your attention as he recounts his unique range of musical experiences and observations. As this covered a lot of more recent music (from 1980s+ ) and bands I'm only vaguely aware of I wondered if I'd stay the course. I stayed with it till the end, wanting more. Great, relaxing listen.

Story
All of us have in our minds a cartoon image of what an autocratic state looks like, with a bad man at the top. But in the 21st century, that cartoon bears little resemblance to reality. Nowadays, autocracies are run not by one bad guy, but by sophisticated networks composed of kleptocratic financial structures, security services and professional propagandists. The members of these networks are connected not only within a given country, but among many countries. The corrupt, state-controlled companies in one dictatorship do business with corrupt, state-controlled companies in another.

A disturbing picture of the future.
Reviewed: 30-07-24
Most of our news and information on the world trickles in on a daily basis. That flow alone is generally worrying. However, to be presented with this detailed, well researched critique of the political world is quite disturbing. What's more worrying is that the groundwork for this future has already and insidiously been laid.
Weak and corrupt politicians, unscrupulous oligarchs, criminal overlords and despotic rulers are creating a parallel world order where they basically can do whatever they want. No constraints or consequences for their barbaric actions.
Well narrated by the author. Hard at times to both tear myself away and also to take in what is being relayed to me. This audiobook has left me troubled but also motivated to work my way through the rest of this excellent writers back catalogue.

Story
The London Silver Vaults—for well over a century, the largest collection of silver for sale in the world. It has more locks than the Bank of England and more cameras than a celebrity punch-up. Not somewhere you can murder someone and vanish without a trace—only that's what happened. The disappearing act, the reports of a blinding flash of light and memory loss amongst the witnesses all make this a case for Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit.
