Story
Dublin, 1918. In a country doubly ravaged by war and disease, Nurse Julia Power works at an understaffed hospital in the city centre, where expectant mothers who have come down with an unfamiliar flu are quarantined together. Into Julia's regimented world step two outsiders: Doctor Kathleen Lynn, on the run from the police, and a young volunteer helper, Bridie Sweeney. In the darkness and intensity of this tiny ward, over the course of three days, these women change each other’s lives in unexpected ways.

An easy book to listen to, narration was a bit bitty at times but not distracting from the story. It did lead me onto learning more about Dr Kathleen Lynn and then other women involved in the Irish revolution.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Reviewed: 11-02-21
My favourite of the long Realms of the Elderlings series, not just because it adequately wraps up loose ends and brings all threads together but the narration by Avita Jay was the best of all female narrators of the series (some of whom, apart from Avita Jay,) were so very, very bad in the Rain Wild Chronicles) so the series were finally a very good listening experience.

One of the most beautiful books I have ever listened to. Abi Darè has written this so powerfully that I was crying for quite a bit of the book, which is not usually the case for me. Adjoa Andoh is a reason to listen to audible books, her narration was truly remarkable. if I could have awarded more than 5 stars I would have done. this book will remain in my head and heart for a long, long time.

I must admit that at around 15 minutes I rather regretted buying all three books but luckily I carried on. A most extraordinary book about the 'offspring' of already well known characters from very famous authors. A very enjoyable book and I am now looking forward to listening to the other two in a listening binge.

I binged all of the Strike books in just over a week, I wish I hadn't as now I can't think of anything that can follow it, they were that good.
After each book in the series I thought can the next one be as good? But each were better than the one before and this last one is no exception.
