Story
Summer 1914. A world on the brink of catastrophe. In London, 26-year-old Venetia Stanley – aristocratic, clever, bored, reckless – is having a love affair with the Prime Minister, H. H. Asquith, a man more than twice her age. He writes to her obsessively, sharing the most sensitive matters of state. As Asquith reluctantly leads the country into war with Germany, a young intelligence officer is assigned to investigate a leak of top secret documents – and suddenly what was a sexual intrigue becomes a matter of national security that will alter the course of political history.

Story
It's AD 123, and the sun is shining on southern Gaul. Ex-military medic Ruso and his British wife, Tilla, are back after a long absence - but it's not the reunion anyone had hoped for. Ruso's brother has left him in charge of a farm he has no idea how to manage, a chronic debt problem, and a gaggle of accident-prone small children. Meanwhile his sister Flora has run away to rescue her boyfriend, who's accused of murdering a wealthy guest at a party.

I have just discovered Médicus series and am enjoying the historical aspect ( love the Romans) but with characters having a more “modern” outlook!

Story
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust.

Beg to disagree...

Whilst I found that the personal experiences of these brave and remarkable people moving and inspiring I found the telling of their story .....both written and audible rather trite in the way it was expressed and explained......I did not like the style at all.
I found the most moving part of the book the factual explanations given at the end. The story and emotions were simplified to a level that I found irritating and not worthy of the story being told.
I gave three stars mainly because of my admiration for the people not because I appreciated it as a worthy telling of their story.......
