Really enjoyed the narration, not heard much in similar voices and it was a welcomed change.
Story was engaging, enough action, spice and plot to keep listening. Worth the credit for sure.

After the devastating events at Zodiac Academy, we have to deal with this darker world we're faced with. Lionel seeks to hurt us, the nymphs seek to hurt the entire fae race, and between all of it, we just have to try and survive each day as it comes. I'm afraid of everything falling apart, but it looks like it already has.

Came back for the story played at double speed for the performance/ length
Reviewed: 23-07-24
Took a few months out from finishing the last book to get back to the next installmentbwcause I was frustrated with the writing style and overly dramatic performance from the narrator - particularly Darcy who is very whiny! stuck with it but felt this book could have been half as long and better for it! stuck with it for the story which ism invested in but played at double speed to help with the performance and massive amount of unnecessary words / moments that don't add much to the story. will continue to the next but sadly not holding out much hope that the performance/ writing will improve but I'm here for the story!

Adam and I are both going through identity crises of epic proportions as we transition from who we were and discover who we were meant to be. More Fae are dying, and I feel as if time is running out for us to find all of those responsible and put an end to the killings. The people I thought I could trust have betrayed me, and the one person I should absolutely not trust is taking me deeper and deeper into his world.

Story
To the vampires who dominate each quadrant of the Lydian Dynasty, I'm only known as "Blackbird" - a masked vigilante who, at 19, is already public enemy number one. To what's left of humanity, I've been called a superhero, a title I neither welcome nor deserve. My only objective is to offer the enslaved what was stolen from us.... Freedom. However, a failed plan lands me in the last place I imagined, at the mercy of all four Dynasty princes - Julian, Levi, Roman, and Silas.

interesting story - I want to listen to the next
Reviewed: 18-02-24
Enjoyable listen and interesting story, could see the ending coming but was worth the time I spent and I want to carry on with the series - not something I've wanted to do for a few other series I've started recently! I found the male voice for the main character a bit annoying / too audio tuned but the other male character voices were good. I ended up listening on 1.5x which worked best for me!

I kept wanting it to get better and it just didn't
Reviewed: 19-01-24
Against my better judgement I made it to book 3 in this series after taking a 6 month break from books 1 and 2 hoping that my memory wasn't remembering it right and I hadn't found the first two books as frustratingly slow and tedious as I thought i did.... sadly I had. I've made it to chapter 6 of book 3 and I've already stopped listening twice to think, can I really listen to the rest?! Right now I really can't. Why say 1 word when you can say a page, the story feels like it could go somewhere but really I'm so bogged down in unnecessary words I'm super bored, frustrated and the narration is not helping at all. overdramatizing and downright annoying. I just cannot keep goin with it. I may be back for the next 6 chapters in about 6 months time but right now I'm done.

Great performance and story building, just seemed a bit slow and not much happened
Reviewed: 05-01-24
I had preordered this as an audiobook as saw a recommendation. Really enjoyed the performance, no issues, however story seemed to do not much for a while. I would say world building but really it was just a lot of background for limited action, contemplated not finishing as was getting bored / distracted but hung on to the end. Not in a rush to continue with the series altho (hopefully!) the next book would have less scene setting and more progress?!

Story
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Reviewing now after a second time listening having loved it the first time round and then couldn't remember the name of the book /series. the title does not do justice to the story / world, don't be put off. Love the sass, the main and support characters, world building and story, highly recommend. Narration also excellent, no issues with pronunciation or delivery. Gives SJM and JLA vibes, if you like them you'll enjoy this series for sure!

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Mercenary Casia Greythorne cares about two things: completing whatever her latest job is and earning enough coin to buy the expensive medicine that's keeping her mentor alive. So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

Hard goin, gave up at chapter 18
Reviewed: 29-11-23
I wanted to enjoy this, I gave it as long as I felt I could be I just found the exposition teadious. Why say 3 words when 3 paragraphs can be used. The pace was very slow and I could not get engaged with the main characters much at all. We could have arrived at the point of chapter 18 by chapter 8 and it would have been much more engaging if so. Couldn't waste any more time and I've stopped and will be removing from my library.
