Terrible narration
Reviewed: 16-10-24
The narrator is absolutely terrible. One struggles to stay awake listening to her sing song-ing her way through the story. I had to send it back without finishing it

Story
In one of his earliest cases, Ellery Queen confronts a murder in blue blood. From the very beginning, the Khalkis case struck a somber note. It began, as was peculiarly harmonious in the light of what was to come, with the death of an old man. Georg Khalkis, internationally famous art dealer and collector, died of heart failure. After his funeral, his attorney found that the will was missing and immediately called in the district attorney. When Inspector Queen and his son, Ellery, are brought in to solve the mystery, Ellery mentions the one place they have not searched for the will: the coffin.

This would’ve been better as a short story- it dragged on too much. Not enjoyable at all.

This is a frustratingly unfinished novel!!!! Did they catch the vigilante killer? How did Solgenic die? Who killed him? How did they get to him in prison? Also what about Acton’s cousin’s lie about how they’re related…..this book needs revision…..

Another murder follows. Eda’s quiet priest is killed in the same chapel. Crowner Ralf insists the crimes fall under the king’s law and that Prioress Eleanor lacks objectivity because of her cousin’s involvement.

Laos, 1979: Dr. Siri Paiboun, the twice retired ex-National Coroner of Laos, receives an unmarked package in the mail. Inside is a handwoven pha sin, a colorful traditional skirt worn in northern Laos. A lovely present, but who sent it to him, and why? And, more importantly, why is there a severed human finger stitched into the sin's lining?

What happened to the first narrator?? This one is so boring and flavourless that he has totally spoilt the story. He’s even got the name of the main character wrong!!!! His name is ‘Siri’ not ‘Silly’. He could have at least got that right!!!!

Not a lot was recorded about the fate of the seven gunmen, but much has been said, whispered and sung about in the streets of West Kingston.

Irritated listening
Reviewed: 05-01-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A narrator's voice which is not so dry, clipped & wooden & so dicficultto listen to without feeling irritation.
What other book might you compare The Forgotten Papyrus to, and why?
Kevin Clay is a better & more imaginative narrator
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Very wooden
Any additional comments?
Too many things are left hanging; I didn't hear anything about a papyrus in the narrative!
