Story
Philosophy begins with questions about the nature of reality and how we should live. These were the concerns of Socrates, who spent his days in the ancient Athenian marketplace asking awkward questions, disconcerting the people he met by showing them how little they genuinely understood. This engaging book introduces the great thinkers in Western philosophy and explores their most compelling ideas about the world and how best to live in it.

This is really clearly written and concise. I managed to follow even the more complex ideas quite easily given the way it was written.

A book that covers so much of humanity, too much to remember but with some real shocking facts and intriguing patterns of our history. The last few chapters of this book really put the fundamentals of human power and emotion to the test and leave you questioning where we are heading. An essential read.

Story
Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

Imaginative and intense allegories
Reviewed: 01-06-18
The Odyssey is the book that really stands out for me, having read it before I can say it is one of my favourite books. It contains unbridled imagination that really takes you to the ancient world, there are so many characters and so much happening that its difficult to keep track of sometimes but this gets easier when you read it again. Odysseus is a brave adventurer who you find yourself really becoming attached to, he is a flawed protagonist, but no more flawed than the many God's he comes into contact with on his journey home.
The Iliad contains even more characters (I think, it certainly feels like it) and this is one long exploration of part of the Trojan War. It really divulges into the rows between God's and how their pettiness drastically alters the fate of the mere mortals down on earth who're trying to navigate victory in battle. The book also explores the life and reputation of an ancient household name, Achilles: one of mythology's most compelling figures.
Homer (if he ever existed) is one of the most talented writers in history and I believe reading his work is a must.

Story
Looking back over his life, from schoolboy crushes (on girls and boys) to discovering the power of making people laugh (in the Cambridge Footlights with David Mitchell), and from losing his beloved mother to becoming a husband and father, Robert Webb considers the absurd expectations boys and men have thrust upon them at every stage of life.

This book contained some great insight into Robert Webb's life, but, unlike most autobiographies it really offered a great look into his views on feminism, masculinity and friendship. The title itself suggests this book is going to be more than just a step-by-step story of his life.
Webb really takes on his own prejudices and prejudices he felt affected him, and affect many others, whilst being endearing, honest and funny.

Story
In February 2014, Reni Eddo-Lodge posted an impassioned argument on her blog about her deep-seated frustration with the way discussions of race and racism in Britain were constantly being shut down by those who weren't affected by it. She gave the post the title 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race'. Her sharp, fiercely intelligent words hit a nerve, and the post went viral, spawning a huge number of comments from people desperate to speak up about their own similar experiences.

Flagrant Racism Posing as Social Justice
- By Joaquin on 11-09-18
Vital book from a brave, inspirational author
Reviewed: 01-06-18
I really enjoyed this book, the information that Reni gets across is so important and she unapologetically dismantles common assumptions and social norms.
I was already aware of some of the issues raised by the author and the ones I wasn't aware of made me shocked and sad that I wasn't previously aware of them. Reni adopts quite a blunt, debatably accusational approach, which I think is completely justified. In the book she references people who feel angered or accused by her words, and perfectly analyses why that is. I think as a culture, Britain has tried its best to forget the very recent negative past (and in parts gruesome present), Reni highlights how so many of the issues in our recent past have caused chain reactions on today, as well as the phenomenon that is pretending everything is fine if we don't talk about it. A sentence from another book that perfectly sums up this one is from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her book 'Americanah' : 'If you ask a white person if racism still exists they tend to say no, but ask a person of colour and the answer would be very different'

Story
So, the thing is, I come from the world we were supposed to have. That means nothing to you, obviously, because you live here, in the crappy world we do have. But it never should've turned out like this. And it's all my fault - well, me and, to a lesser extent, my father. And, yeah, I guess a little bit Penelope. In both worlds she's the love of my life. But only a single version of her can exist. I have one impossible chance to fix history's greatest mistake and save this broken world.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have already told my family and friends about the book, it's a great sci-fi premise but with such relatable attributes.
What other book might you compare All Our Wrong Todays to, and why?
It is pretty original so cannot think of a fair comparison
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book is a very 'real' illustration of the protagonist's life, it contains sadness and joy, just as any life would have, but as it is written by a talented writer in Elan Mastai, those moments are articulated very well
