A good book to read to understand Matthew and what he went through. As other readers have pointed out repetitions, i think it is important to note the he was an actor and this was his honest account. I cant believe those mean reviews saying they wasted a credit. They can return the book as per Audible's policy. He was entitled to feel sorry for himself. He might have lost his life because of these inner demons. Some readers think it is OK to be rude and hurtful just because they bought a book. Was shocked to read those hurtful reviews.

Story
Are you still playing a role you learned in childhood to please others, such as the Good Girl/Boy, the Overachiever, or the Helper? Though these kinds of roles may have gained us attention and affection, they prohibited us from becoming our true selves. People-pleasing—putting others ahead of ourselves to avoid something negative or to get something we want or need—runs rampant in our society. Saying yes when we should say no leaves us stuck in frustrating patterns.

Story
Like most psychiatric concepts, codependency issues, symptoms, and effects are complicated. When you have a codependent personality disorder, you tend to have low self-esteem and turn to anything outside of yourself for comfort, such as alcohol, drugs, relationships, or compulsive behaviors. This can take a toll on your life, leaving you in a state of constant fear of abandonment, a compelling need to please and control others, and obsession with your partner. However, recovering from codependency is possible!

Clear concise explanation of codependency. I am co-dependent and this book helped me immensely understand co-dependency better. I have actually listened to many books on co-dependency on Audible and this book rates among the top for me. The narrator voice is also perfect for this type of content.

A great book but....
Reviewed: 25-02-22
The first few chapters were great. I felt like Gabby was a friend with me in the room speaking to me. I kept saying me too! as I listened to the audio. The chapters I have listened to so far helped me reflect on my traumatic experiences.
However, I feel like she had a bad editor. There are loads of ramblings, repetitions and going no-where paragraphs. I also guess I am not as spiritual as the author and the story of the blue butterfly was a turn off. She asked for a sign from the Spirit in the form of a blue butterfly. Later that day, she saw stickers of blue butterflies on a Jeep. If you are spiritual or religious, the book might be for you.
