Extremely Interesting
Reviewed: 10-03-25
This is an extremely interesting read. It includes historical references, mythology as well as philosophy. There's so much covered in a relatively short period of time.
The one negative I will say is, I listened to the audio version of this book and unfortunately I just couldn't get on with the narrators voice. But still a great read.

The book is divided into two sections: The first section guides the listener through some basic, if simultaneously sophisticated, magical theory, including the power of attraction. Techniques are derived from diverse influences blending modern paganism with Afro-Caribbean and Latin American magic, reflecting the author's background and making the material accessible to listeners walking a variety of magical paths.

This Book was Ok, Until
Reviewed: 19-01-25
To begin with I quite liked this book. It flowed nicely, was easy to follow and seemed informative. However there was one part that troubled me and ultimate lead to me abandoning this read. The healing section.
See the writer treated this as manifesting will or at can cure you if done right. There was no mention of the necessity of seeking conventional medical treatment. The book also mentioned how manifestation can affect insurance company decisions. This is nonsense. Call up the insurance provider or look at their website.
I feel that this book could be very damaging to vulnerable people.

Good but very hetro-normative
Reviewed: 10-01-25
This was a good soothing read and well paced. But it does approach things from a very hetro-normative perspective. Though some attempt has been made to counteract this.
It states things as 'fact' that are now under question or disapproved. But this could be a mark of when it was published.
While this review may so far sound negative, I did really enjoy it. I would also recommend it as a beginners guide. I like how different myths have been included. As well as the ritual suggestions.
While relatively fact based, it was still an enjoyable, informative and soothing read.
It should also be noted that I listened to the audio version of this book. The narration was really good. It was clear and measured and very enjoyable.

I had high hopes for the lecture series and was quite disappointed as a result. I was looking forward to the textual analyses of the myths. However this was so over simplified, it made the whole thing rather pointless.

Good talk but limited

While I really enjoyed the history of yoga. As well as how it looked at yoga's impact on different medical conditions. The practical sections where completely impossible to follow. From the wording to the impossibly quick transitions. This was disappointing.
It's worth noting though that I was listening to the audio version of these talks. So the routines maybe easier to follow on video.
Some of the bizarre instruments included "Telescope the ribs" I mean how? Just how? And another favorite "Sit in embryo". I mean what?
Maybe these terms mean more to more experienced yoga practitioners. But they are pretty incomprehensible to me.

I was slightly nervous when started this series. Even more so when I realised the lecturer was ex-HR. But I was pleasantly surprised by how thoughtful and understanding this was.
I have learnt to be careful with workplace guides. To often they like to blame and label.
But this series was engaging, informative and for the most part useful. I really enjoyed the guided meditation and reflection practices. They were really helpful.

Absolutely Fabulous, A Must Read
Reviewed: 11-12-24
This book/lecture series was absolutely fabulous and a definite must read.
Every chapter is more informative than the last. And the topic was so engaging. I loved the mix of personal experiences and scientific studies.
The narration was good and clearly they are very passionate about the topic. There were a couple of long, unexpected pauses throughout which had me wondering if audible had paused. But still good quality delivery.
