A definite improvement on the first.

As already mentioned definitley better than the first but still some plot issues that done really make too much sense. Won't go into too much detail so as not to spoil, the ending seemed a bit unnecessary but otherwise still worth a read.

The overall story wasn't too bad but it became very difficult to follow sometimes due to poor editing. There were no real pauses in between paragraphs which could sometimes be very confusing as it appeared that the narrator was still talking about one person's perspective when they had in fact changed. Its a basic narration, bot bad but not great with no real variation in tone or voice for different characters. Obviously it's a bit grim in terms of subject matter so be ready for that but overall ita bot too bad, looking forward to listening to the next.

I originally bought this for my Daughters before realising it was a little too old for then. While looking through my backlog for something short and sweet I saw this and mistakenly (thinking it was something else) started to listen. Honestly I think everyone needs to listen to something like this everyone in a while, it's heartfelt, it's easy and it's enjoyable, something helped greatly by the narrator who just suits the book perfectly. As a 30 years old man I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much but much like Percy Jackson and Harry potter, I loved it.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

After reading Jonathan strange & Mr Norell I was happy to see the author had released a new book I found Strange and Norell to be good but a little rambling, this was almost the same. At the start I wasn't really sure what was happening, the descriptions of the places and directions all confused me and I started to think I would never understand it. And then I realised we aren't meant to, we aren't meant to memorise all of the places and all of the names and that's fine, the book is about Piranesi and his self discovery or if you will Re-discovery. In this way it excelled and was brilliant. Chilwell Ejiofor is a fantastic narrator and rally does make Piranesi a living breathing character and not just another 2D construction. If I have one criticism it would be the ending, its a great ending and it makes sense and it all fits, I just can't help a part of me wanting a more fansltastical ending than the one we were given.

I really enjoyed the vast majority of this book, the story didn't exactly go as I expected but I still enjoyed it despite that. The narration is great, Warren Brown does a great job and it kept me listening. The problems come at the end where its just goes off the rails, without going into detail and spoiling anything, I just have to wonder why authors go to such lengths to build up their characters and get us engaged only to break them down and ruin them in one way or another.

Story
The story of Troy speaks to all of us - the kidnapping of Helen, a queen celebrated for her beauty, sees the Greeks launch a thousand ships against the city of Troy, to which they will lay siege for 10 whole and very bloody years. It is Zeus, the king of the gods, who triggers the war when he asks the Trojan prince Paris to judge the fairest goddess of them all. Aphrodite bribes Paris with the heart of Helen, wife of King Menelaus of the Greeks, and naturally, nature takes its course.

As someone who has both read and studied the Iliad this is by far one of the best versions of the story, Stephen has a brilliant way of writing that makes it instantly accessible to anyone. As anyone who has read other transactions of the iliad will know it is full of names and relations and references that are verily easily confused. This simplifies the story without losing any of what makes it so special, in fact if anything it enhances the story in many ways through his brilliant narration which is after all, how the story was meant to be heard and told. I have listened to each of Stephens books in this series and eagerly await to hear if he will give us his version of the Odyssey too.

This was different to the rest of the Roy Grace series in that he was hardly in it, the book focused mainly on something else entirely (no spoilers) but I do feel it lost a bit of interest for me because of this, I personally was hoping for a bit of headway made with the whole Pugh situation after how the last book ended but again felt a bit let down that the whole thing is getting further dragged on. hopefully there will be a satisfying conclusion to this to make it worth the wait

It helps that the author is the narrator as you get to hear it exactly how he intended it to be. Would definitley reconmend

In 1997, World Championship Wrestling was on top. It was the number-one pro wrestling company in the world, and the highest-rated show on cable television. Each week, fans tuned in to Monday Nitro, flocked to sold-out arenas, and carried home truckloads of WCW merchandise. Sting, Bill Goldberg, and the New World Order were household names. Superstars like Dennis Rodman and KISS jumped on the WCW bandwagon. It seemed the company could do no wrong.

Getting sight of the ins and outs of the downfall is brilliant, and at many times I found myself shaking g my head and laughing out loud at some of the storylines or ideas presented. The narration is spot on and it's obvious that there is passion there which comes through in spades.
