Why write about a period time? If you ignore all the societies rules and regulations. Even the servants protected, their place in society. They were as big a snobs as those in the TON.
The play they watch was critised for being Implausible. This story jumps into a "parallel universe." Where a daughter of actress goes to Charlton House, a nurse-maid mixes with the TON. The heroine is labelled as an mistress. Instead of being revile by the society, she is accepted. The characters are all from the 21st century.
I prefer to have honesty, when I buy a book, ie "what you see is what you get." I feel cheated as this story is flying under false colours. Sadly it also an extremely boring, all set peices.

I dislike the way the authors misuses characters in English history. Turning them into vindictive, malicious gossips. People at the top of the TON, didn't mix with those is the lower echolalion. The heroine is a totally unpleasant character, with all the faults she accused the Hero of having. What American authors get very wrong is the politeness and good manners of English society. The Heroine would never been accepted, it is one thing to be eccentric. Bad manners is never forgiven. To think you could shun the TON, then use them is unbelievable. I found the story unbelievable. A Heroine who does nothing but throws childish tantrums. Over a man she so call hates, why does she hate him? As I said extremely tedious and totally unbelievable. The secondary characters are even more childish, but they had the excuse of age. In fact all the characters are over played from the mild companion to the aggressive parents.

I can only assume that a slight Yorkshire accent is the norm for the narrator. Otherwise, it is hard to understand her random choice of characters having such an accent. She should stick to her natural accent, as she has no talent, in trying to imitate others. The Hero is the one who is self-flagellating, he has added another woman to his basket of responsibility. The Heroine is "spineless." Her excuse; "being a dutiful daughter" The story is just unbelievable, far fetched and ridiculously. How does her father breaks into a house full of invisible servants? Then at the end all is forgiven!!!!!! I had hope the series would end on a high, but it followed the rest into the Abyss.

It is hard to put into words the traversty of this story. The dyslexic hero, who has somehow managed to reach a high rank. One assumes his valet/batman (the only one in the secret). Not only writes his letters/orders, but also reads them. I wonder how that works in battle? He is a Duke's son and has been considered "dumb" all his life. This wasn't unusual as interbreeding made it a common problem. Then the Heroine; her nasty, spoilt self-centred sisters, insane Governess, delusional father and negligent mother. The pugs are at least playing themselves, the are as obnoxious in true life. Their besotted owners, always think them beautiful, full of character and perfect.
The poor Indian visitor, can at least return home, having seen his colonists in their true light.
The story is made up of set pieces that come out of the blue. Have very tenuous links, that are preposterous beyond belief. It was hard work to listen to the end.
This isn't a good understanding or explanation of dyslexic, but generalised pontificating.

Having spent five years running away from the hero, who is trying to steal her son. He also thinks she is a lady of very loose morals and money wrapper.
Having laid out the main story, the author now has to Contrived to get them into bed. This is done by having them convort around the country. Without maid or chaperon, ignoring all conventions of the time. Naturally the hero and heroine are overcome by passion and there are lots of "should I, shouldn't I". I found it a bit incestuous. New characters are randomly introduced, setting them up for further books. The is danger running through the story, but it is another set pieces. Fitted in the gaps of passion. I found it tedious and keep fast forwarding.

Again the main characters are described, then turned upside down. The hero turns out to be a whimp and the heroine an unforgettable shrew. Then end is rushed and unbelievable.

Trying to pass it off as a copy of Georgette Heyer, show she has never read the books. At least Heyer wrote about her class and time.
This hero is an illegitimate daughter an actress, her mother is the mistress of a married man.
After that it becomes more ridiculous, an unbelievable Irish father. A member of parliament, heir to a Duke and so on. The parliamentary daughter is too ridiculously too naive. Unbelievably set peices, a true parallel universe. Don't waste you money, as the tale is frustrating and unbelievable.

I don't understand women like Elsbeth, making excuses of her star sign, explaining her desperate hopeful relationship with Hamish. She is setting herself up to be an abuse wife, as he critises her dress her job and her lifestyle. He is jealous and positive about any woman he fancy, but he is free to jump into anyone's bed. Macbeth would not make a decent husband to any women. Ignore the so called romance and the rest off the story is good.

Hamish wants "arm candy" and " sex on tap". Priscilla wants a "bit of rough", so defying her family. Right from the started they are scoring points of each other, involving others in their petty bickering. If there was any real affection or kindness, they could work through Priscilla coldness. Instead they don't trust each other, take pleasure in putting each other down and general spitefullyness. Their relationship could never be call romantic.
Heather is light relief and the story is good and keeps you guessing.
