One of the best books in the Siege of Terra series

For a book that's dubbed as Sanguinius' Siege book, it has a lot of interesting side plots with other characters, true they may be alot of the ones hes written about previously but they all play their roles to make this book memorable. My most enjoyable part: The long awaited grudge match between Sanguinius and a certain Bloodthirster of Khorne for the run up to the climatic end.

The Siege continues, while the cost escalates

Another exciting chapter in the cataclysmic battle that shapes the future of the Grim Dark future of the 40k universe.

If you like massive Titan battles and further weaving of the levels that both sides of the conflict are willing to go during the Horus Heresy, then you'll enjoy this book. In between those moments are the smaller interplay between characters that frame the cost of the war coupled with the mind-bending shenanigans of those forces tangling in the warp while the physical plane is fought over.

Enjoyed the story alot more than I expected and the twist and turns we really good. I would have given it a 5/5 for story if it weren't for the twist in the prologue, which while an impressive idea visually is ruined by it being the entrance for a certain character.

To me Jonathan Keeble is still the quintessential voice for 40k and Heresy audio books. His ability to give several similiar characters variety over the course of a book is impressive.

Star Wars Horror...Unexpectedly Brutal

Had heard abou this story in passing for a while and decided to check it out.

For a story set in the Star Wars universe it's pretty goery. Alot of quieter moments also help sell the unsettling atmosphere and creeping dread before things kick off and it was a nice change of pace for a story set in a galaxy far, far away.

Con: the repitive use of the stock flyby noise for transitions between segments of chapters did get annoying and didn't feel appropriate at times.

I had never been one for Warhammer Fantasy before but after listening to this and Drachenfels, I can safely say that it's definetly got me hooked to listen to more tales in the Old World. The short story style of the chapters in this book coupled with the interaction between the various characters (including the main heroes themselves) and Jonathan Keeble's amazing reading were all the necessary ingredients for me to enjoy this book. Felix Jaeger's trip from reluctant witness to Gotrek's desperate doom quest to becoming an unsung hero in his own right is an exciting journey full of twists and turns that would appeal to anyone seeking adventurous tales set in the Old World of Warhammer.

Really enjoyed this look into the earlier version of the old warhammer fantasy world. The characters were interesting and the politics and their struggles have definetly inspired me with ideas of future characters for my own future RPG ideas. Worth a listen if you're a big fan of Warhammer Fantasy and want something a little less action orientated set in the Old World.

Like the Eisenhorn and Ravenor books before it, both the combination of Dan Abnett's writing and Toby Longworth's performance make this an enjoyable listen and inspiration for anyone getting into Warhammer 40k and particularly the Aeronautica Imperialis game.

Having read the physical book years ago, listening to this made for nice reminder and in some cases improved upon the story. If you're not a fan of 40k then it won't appeal as much but if you like aerial dogfight stories then it might be up your alley.

Interesting characters coupled with excellent and realistic dialogue (for a book set in a fantasy rpg) and an out of the box premise. Definetly recommended reading (or listening in this case) not only for DMs/GMs but for their players too.

An audio drama of Orky proportions

While it is hard to differentiate between the various Ork characters (with the exception of the Badmoonz Mek, the Weirdboy, Frick and all the other Grotz), the performances are suitably Orky. Meaning they are loud, crude and sprinkled with humour along the way. While the story is in itself a bit predictable, the few nods to some of the background lore here and there was entertaining. A nice touch was the inclusion of some Ork to Human translation at the start of each chapter, giving us an impression of what Ork Speech is really like.

Voice acting was okay, scene recreations were appreciated but ultimately it didn't enhance the story that I was already familiar with.
