One of my favourite reads of 2024, I'm so glad I stumbled across this. An intergenerational story of women and their strengths and the lies that are created to control and subdue them. I loved the use of tonnes of natural imagery. I'll definitely be rereading this, a new firm fave. And a really fantastic use of voices, the women who narrated for each character were the absolute perfect choices

There are some pretty devastating scenes in this little novel and it was tempting sometimes to take the more comfortable route by putting it down and not picking it up again. The characters have a lot of depth and complexity. The ugliness of humanity is portrayed through images of cruelty, neglect and self-hatred. But strength and compassion and resilience shine through too.
I'm glad I persevered, but it still felt like I could breathe freely again when the book ended.

A helpful and easy to follow guide to looking after yourself and meeting your needs in the new normal of early motherhood. As a therapist and as a mum, I loved this book and it's concise and caring content

A firm new favourite. The first thing I've read by Emma Donoghue but definitely won't be the last

Didn't finish as I didn't like the writing style. I loved the allergy analogy though.

Came here after watching the TV adaptation on Netflix and was happy to find that the main character of Joe was even more twisted and easy to hate than his Netflix version. It can't be easy to write a character like Joe. I loved loved loved this book

Absolutely loved this and cannot wait to listen to Testaments. As a new mum I was finding it hard to make time for hobbies and things I enjoy, but I was immersed in my first proper experience of audio books through this title. Cleverly written and easy to identify with, particularly as a young woman and mother.
