Story
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

I love the inclusion of people from this era that are involved. There’s: the royals, Mrs Simpson, some WW2 German hierarchy and several fashion designers. Great plot with lots of suspects.

Story
Hello to you, I am with news. I have a new book: I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. I know – what an intriguing title! Basically, I have had an unexpectedly difficult decade – there have been surprising joys but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I shall be honest about those, because what I discovered in the difficult times were my, what I call, treasures.

Depressing Book
Reviewed: 28-10-24
I found shortly after beginning the book that it wasn’t at all what I expected. I do understand that Miranda has been through the mill with this debilitating illness. But for me, a book needs to entertain me and capture my imagination. I have never been one for biographies and certainly not into self healing books. Unfortunately this is what the book is about, her struggles through Lime disease that she got via a simple tick bite. She reads the book in her usual fun fashion so no faults there, but I skipped a huge amount of chapters. (I couldn’t return the title because I had pre ordered this book and not used my monthly credits, but if I could I most certainly would have). So not a happy experience with this one.

One night less than two weeks before Christmas, a single mother is violently assaulted. It’s a brutal crime at the time of year when there should be goodwill to all. When DI Barton begins his investigation, he’s surprised to find the victim is a woman with nothing to hide and no reason for anyone to hurt her. A few days later, the mother of the woman attacked rings the police station. Her granddaughter has drawn a shocking picture. It seems she was looking out of the window when her mother was attacked.

Such a good book with background stories within the story. All so interesting and even funny at times, though the murderer is cunning and clever. Another great read about DI Barton - but what’s next now that - best not put a spoiler in this review.

Story
When DI Barton is asked to investigate a seemingly innocuous fire that kills, he believes it's either children fooling around or a worrying racially motivated crime. As he delves deeper into the case, he soon realises that there is a history of similar blazes spread out over many years, all within a close area. An idea suggested by pathologist Mortis makes Barton suspect he has the arsonist’s motives wrong.

Great story, great narrator. Lots of plots that were like one huge jigsaw as Barton said. “All the pieces but it was putting them into the right places”. I also love the Barton and Zander relationship, their funny, emotional and serious banter. Such a good read I read it twice in succession.

Wow! Wow! What an amazing, gripping story! Another great murder mystery adventure for D I Barton written by Ross Greenwood. Well done Ross, I can see why you had fun writing about Ellen - such an interesting and complex character. Again I’m feeling slightly sorry for the killer (that’s quite worrying 🫤). And THE EPILOGUE …… a cracking end to a cracking story.

Great characters in Norfolk
Reviewed: 11-05-24
Ross Greenwood crafts a gripping narrative, filled with twists and turns that kept me hooked from start to finish in this third book of The Norfolk Murders Series. The characters are multi-dimensional, each with their own working lives, loves and ambitions. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, allowing for a deeper exploration of each character's outlook on life and death, adding layers to the complex murder hunt. As the gruesome plot unravels, there are times I can understand the killer’s motivations and even sympathise (is that allowed?) The chase escalates, leading to a conclusion that will leave readers wanting more. "Death in Bacton Wood" is a must-read for fans of suspense thrillers, with a compelling cast of characters. One of the very many reasons I enjoyed this book is because it is set around the area in Norfolk where we now live. Looking forward to the next one, to not only enjoy the murder mystery, but to see how the lives pan out for the main characters.

Story
Richmond Upon Thames is one of the most desirable areas to live in London. And Riverview Close - a quiet, gated community – seems to offer its inhabitants the perfect life. At least it does until Giles Kenworthy moves in with his wife and noisy children, his four gas-guzzling cars, his loud parties and his plans for a new swimming pool in his garden. His neighbours all have a reason to hate him and are soon up in arms. When Kenworthy is shot dead with a crossbow bolt through his neck, all of them come under suspicion and his murder opens the door to lies, deception and further death.

Such an intricate plot but so readable and incredibly clever. What an amazing mind Anthony Horowitz must have to imagine and work out this fantastic story. Mixing his own life and that of the fictitious Hawthorne. So enjoyable and so I’m eagerly awaiting the future adventures of these two.

A brutal double murder on a Norfolk beach horrifies the town of Cromer. The way the victims died is chilling and so Norfolk’s Major Investigation Team task DS Ashley Knight to manage the case. It soon becomes clear that the murders were carefully planned and the finger of suspicion points to an organised crime gang, but as the evidence mounts, a far more sinister theory emerges.

I know this area very well from our many holidays nearby. I now live at Bacton in retirement.
This is a great story, lots of plots and human interest. Because I know Cromer so well I could see the action in my minds eye because of the good descriptive details.
Now onto the next one set in Hunstanton, which I know only a little of from my day trips there in the past.

Story
Christmas 1953. Max Mephisto, and his daughter, Ruby, are headlining Brighton Hippodrome, an achievement only slightly marred by the less-than-savoury support act: a tableau show of naked 'living statues'. This might appear to have nothing in common with DI Edgar Stephens's investigation into the death of a quiet flower seller, but if there's one thing the old comrades have learned it's that, in Brighton, the line between art and life - and death - is all too easily blurred.

Story
Elizabeth II's coronation is looming, but the murder of their wartime commander, Colonel Cartwright, spoils the happy mood for DI Edgar Stephens and magician Max Mephisto. A playbill featuring another deceased comrade is found in Colonel Cartwright's possession, and a playing card, the ace of hearts: the blood card. The wartime connection and the suggestion of magic are enough for him to put Stephens and Mephisto on the case.

This is a good story, though lots of characters that I find I have to stop and think who’s who. Love the 1950’s backdrop with its references to the war years.
A new narrator from the previous two books, but a good voice and changes well for each character. Just wish the book were longer as I seem to zip through them so quickly.
