Story
England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Always a good story

Took a while to tune into anyone other than David Suchet’s Poirot. I didn’t particularly like the quality or way the audio sounded. Switching ears from stereo to give the impression of listening to people from different sides of a room. The story is well known and always good but I learnt an adaptation is not for me.

Little over the top in areas - luckily (mostly) people are not that depraved. But on the whole a good listen and we learn more about the characters.

I’m warming to Vicky Dodds - this was a well thought out plot (a bit far fetched - but who needs reality). I like the interaction between the officers.

Story
Set in 1920s London, this is the inspiring story of Kate Goss' struggle against poverty, hunger and cruel family secrets. Her mother died in a fall, her father has vanished without trace, and now her aunt and cousins treat her viciously. In a freezing, vermin-infested garret, factory girl Kate has only her own brave spirit and dreams of finding her father to keep her going. She has barely enough money to feed herself, or to pay the rent. The factory where she works begins to lay off people and it isn't long before she has fallen into the hands of the violent local money-lender.

Great narrator for a wonderful story of hardship, love found and love lost. So pleased I took a chance on this book from Audible plus, I’ll definitely listen to more from the author. Kate is a plucky character and instantly likeable and you just want her to get some luck. Well done

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

This was a well crafted story that kept up the tempo. It isn’t a subject matter I like but that said it was very listenable and hooked you pretty early on. Well worth a listen with Audible Plus.

Story
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

So I took a chance on a freebie and was very pleasantly surprised. A bit of an unexpected twist which I didn’t see coming. I thought it was getting too gritty for an easy listen at bedtime but a good narration made all the difference. Take a chance.

Rikesh is back in uniform and trying to establish some respect and earn his stripes. They happen upon a murder and Rob Marahall just happens to be in the area. Seconded to work the case Rikesh finds it hard working the case but as a sargeant jot a detective. A good story that has set it up well for the next book.

A good introduction to Rikesh, I enjoyed the story and it explained the background to his relationship with Andrea Elliot. His perspective is different to his die hard colleagues which ultimately helps the case.

Great narration, I could listen for hours, very easy on the ear. Very predictable, curl up with your coco and prepare for a ‘made for TV’ American Christmas movie. I like all the descriptions of the area, overall a nice listen.
