Classic Pratchett

Is it Pratchett or Dickens? It's the best of both worlds. The story is fairly simple but told and read with flair and it's a joy to come across many well-known characters, both fictional and real.

Story
From the earliest civilizations to the 21st century: a global journey through human history, published alongside a landmark BBC One television series. Our understanding of world history is changing, as new discoveries are made on all the continents and old prejudices are being challenged. In this truly global journey, Andrew Marr revisits some of the traditional epic stories, from classical Greece and Rome to the rise of Napoleon, but surrounds them with less familiar material, from Peru to the Ukraine, China to the Caribbean.

Everything you always wanted to know

... about the history of the world. Andrew Marr's excellent book is not read by him (only the introduction) but that doesn't matter at all. Many of the subjects he touches upon will be vaguely familiar, but the two major selling points for this book are:
- you'll find out more about things you knew a bit about, and
- mr. Marr puts things in perspective by connecting world events to other world events happing on or around the same time, providing a much more complete picture of what was going on in the world and how events relate to each other.

Excellent book, but not an easy read
Reviewed: 08-04-13
I found this book compellingly written and well-read, but it's not an easy read (or listen). I often listen to audiobooks on my work commute but that didn't work well with this novel, as I found myself missing things. Better to give it my full attention - and it's worth it, too.
