Story
No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

Excellent narration and written by a genius

This was a rambling journey through the dregs of humanity. It is both sympathetic and typically grotesque. Its very long and sort of fades out at the end but is essential reading if you are a fan of the author

Story
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

This is a truly great work. Both Terrible and beautiful all wrapped up in human skin, rolling purposely across an endless desert.

Story
Sixteen hundred years ago, Britain left the Roman Empire and swiftly fell into ruin. Grand cities and luxurious villas were deserted and left to crumble, and civil society collapsed into chaos. Into this violent and unstable world came foreign invaders from across the sea and established themselves as its new masters. The Anglo-Saxons traces the turbulent history of these people across the next six centuries. It explains how their earliest rulers fought relentlessly against each other for glory and supremacy and then were almost destroyed by the onslaught of the Vikings.

The complete magisterial history of the greatest and most terrible event in history, from one of the finest historians of the Second World War. This shows the impact of war upon hundreds of millions of people around the world - soldiers, sailors and airmen; housewives, farm workers and children. Reflecting Max Hastings' 35 years of research on World War II, All Hell Let Loose describes the course of events but focuses chiefly upon human experience.

Excellent overview of WW2

Timeline narrative held together brilliantly by the inclusion of first hand accounts. Some criticism of this book stems from it being told from a largely British perspective, however i personally found it extremely fair and objective. Leaders faults and failings on all sides are equally highlighted. In a war of this magnitude nobody wins. Highly recommended.
