Story
Two years after my mother died, my father fell in love with a glamorous blonde Ukrainian divorcee. He was 84 and she was 36. She exploded into our lives like a fluffy pink grenade, churning up the murky water, bringing to the surface sludge of sloughed-off memories, giving the family ghosts a kick up the backside. Sisters Vera and Nadezhda must put aside a lifetime of feuding to save their émigré engineer father from voluptuous gold-digger Valentina.

So disappointed.

So disappointed.

This classic tale is utterly spoilt due to poor production issues. For an "Audible Only" production if fall well short of the mark.
Whilst the narrator's voice is pleasant and comfortable to the ear, the fact that English is clearly not her mother tongue, her pronunciations are often wrong to the point of irritation.
I struggled through the books but gave up on the last volume.
A total waste of effort in my opinion.

Story
George Eliot's first full-length novel Adam Bede is a profound rendering of 19th century English pastoral life. This timeless story of seduction and betrayal follows the virtuous carpenter Adam Bede, whose world is soon disrupted when the all-too-beautiful Hetty betrays him for another villager. Her actions precipitate a turmoil of tragic events that shake the very foundations of their serene rural community.

Story
For years, rumors of the 'Marsh Girl' have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved.

Story
This was the most popular novel of Radcliffe's time; Radcliffe's portrayal of her heroine's inner life raised the Gothic romance to a new level. The atmosphere of fear and the gripping plot continue to thrill today. This is the story of the orphaned Emily St Aubert, who finds herself separated from the man she loves and confined within the Castle of Udolpho by her aunt's new husband Montoni. Here she must cope with an unwanted suitor, Montoni's threats, and the wild imaginings and terrors which threaten to overwhelm her.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Mysteries of Udolpho to be better than the print version?
Yes, I would never have the time or patience to read the novel.
Have you listened to any of Alison Larkin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have not but will look out for other titles.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No, the whole novel was a sheer delight and difficult to stop listening to.
Any additional comments?
Pure quality literature and narration. So so enjoyable.
