This was a fascinating account of a girl raised as a boy in Afghanistan and the challenges she faced when she was expected to return to being female at puberty.
Having lived in Egypt since 2011, I see the challenges those women face every day. And Egypt is not Afghanistan!
I felt very sad when I realised that this book was written before the Americans and British allowed the Taliban to simply waltz back in to Afghanistan. And I wondered what she would think of Afghanistan now.
Very emotively written. The narration too was easy to listen to.
I will listen to this again, to remind myself that many women live difficult, oppressed lives and to remember how far we, as Western women, have come. We owe it to the women of the Middle East to be strong and to support their endeavours.

I truly loved this audible book. Rob's narration was perfect; I can hear the echo of Terry's voice in it. I have been listening to the book for possibly six months now and am sad that it has ended. But, I can listen again, which I will, picking up the details I missed the first time around.

I have been a Pratchett fan for many years, but getting to know Terry's history and development as a writer, I experience a closer connection to the 'human' him. A great writer too, Rob narrated the book himself. He was there; he knew Terry, as well as those closest to him, did. And he was with him at the end, well, not right at the end, as he says himself, but near enough. And now he is looking after Terry's legacy.

And he has a lovely, nearly boyish, sense of fun.

The book is well-written, thoroughly enjoyable, and one I will treasure. Although, I will have to buy the hard copy. Who knows how long the internet will be around for?

This is a book about one's man journey through a life lived close to the earth. It is inspirational and gives me hope that we can change our path. We are not doomed to be dragged along by our consumerist society but can make other choices, healthier choices.
Mark Boyle is a wonderful writer and sees things in a way that makes absolute sense. I love that he lives his writing, that he knows what he is talking about, that he is honest about the conflicts, the tiny day-to-day decisions that make his way of life. He shows us that we can live without money, without the trapping of our 'comfortable' existence. We can go back to a land-focused life. But he doesn't sugar-coat that life. The struggles are real, the life is idealistic but obtainable, if you are willing to put the effort into it.
It is reassuring and heart-warming and I am looking forward to reading more, plus, I hope to implement some of what he has shared with us.
I enjoyed the narrator also and was glad it was an Irish voice.
All in all, a very interesting and enjoyable listen with many lessons for us all to learn.
