Story
As the solitary child of mild and gentle parents, Jane is fascinated and astounded by her exotically European aunt, Dolly. Dolly’s ways are certainly not her parents’ ways, yet she is an object of interest and dread to her beleaguered relatives. It is clear that they have nothing in common: Jane feels no affection for Dolly, and Dolly clearly dislikes children. Yet the two are fated to go through life in uneasy harness, until such time as their alliance is accepted by both as not only inevitable, but as something of great value. Read by Fiona Shaw.

Poignant portrait of quiet lives
Reviewed: 26-02-24
Brilliant and subtle narrator, who brings Anita Brookner’s cast of characters alive. An intimate, sweeping portrait of an upper middle class London family with mittel-European roots, the protagonist the sensible and watchful young Jane and her antagonist, the colourful and perennial Aunt Dolly.

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow - and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling - and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last.

Prince Harry is a brilliant narrator
Reviewed: 17-01-23
Don’t believe the tabloid hysteria. This is an extraordinary book, made all the more special by Prince Harry’s talented narration. He’s funny, honest, self-deprecating with a huge dramatic range. We’re so used to anodine celebrity biographies that tell us nothing. Harry has blown that away, lifting the curtain on the House of Windsor, so we can all take a look at the workings behind stage. Of course it’s one-sided - this is his story - but it has an air of authenticity. The same newspapers vilifying him for talking are those who have been making money for decades selling tittle tattle about his family. Read it for yourself, or better yet, listen to him.
