Story
Elsie Porter is an average twentysomething and yet what happens to her is anything but ordinary. On a rainy New Year's Day, she heads out to pick up a pizza for one. She isn't expecting to see anyone else in the shop, much less the adorable and charming Ben Ross. Their chemistry is instant and electric. Ben cannot even wait twenty-four hours before asking to see her again. Within weeks, the two are head over heels in love. By May, they've eloped. Only nine days later, Ben is out riding his bike when he is hit by a truck and killed on impact.

Her subsequent books are so much better

I didn’t realise this was her first novel until the “talk” at the end which explains so much. It’s OK but very disappointing if you are coming to this book last as I did!

Story
Like millions of others, Louis’ plans were mothballed by the onset of COVID. Unable to escape to the porn sets, prisons and maximum-security psychiatric units that are his usual journalistic beat, he began reporting on a location even more full of pitfalls and hostile objects of inquiry: his own home during a pandemic. Theroux the Keyhole is an honest, hilarious and ultimately heartwarming diary of the weirdness of family life in COVID World.

The diary I wish I’d kept during COVID. I listened to this in “one hit” driving from the UK to southern Spain and Louis did not disappoint (and was the perfect driving companion!) A fascinating reminder of all we went through during Lockdown (how quickly one forgets the little details) and a reassuring insight into how another family coped / didn’t cope, with the pressures that extraordinary time put us under. I highly recommend and firmly believe that in years to come this book will be used as a reference to what we all lived through. Thank you Louis

Definitely not aimed at the UK market. Absolutely no idea what half the references in this book were about which was gutting as I am the biggest fan.

Story
In this, her first ever book, Claudia invites us all into her world. This is a memoir with a difference (owing to its lack of a plot - genuinely, how do people do that?) and Claudia shares her observations on topics such as the importance of melted cheese, why black coats are vital, how it's never okay to have sex with someone who has an opinion on your date outfit, how nurses are our most precious national treasure and why colourful clothing is only for the under 10s (if you're reading this sporting a bright red jumper and you're nine, great! If you're older, sorry).

Witty, laugh out loud funny, sharp, perceptive, intelligent - I always wished she was my actual sister, now I know I was correct to wish that and I’m GUTTED she isn’t.
